A day full of bouncy castles, face painting, sneaker customizing, and stage shows around the Rudolf Weber-ARENA Oberhausen
Katta & seine Freunde has developed into one of the most well-known children's festival brands in Germany in recent years. The show combines live acts with mascot characters – 'Katta' himself is a lemur costume who, along with his friends, performs on stage and in the park. A mix of concerts, interactive theater, and a mini fun park makes the event attractive for children between 3 and 10 years old.
The 2026 edition will take place on Sunday, June 14, 2026 around the Rudolf Weber-ARENA in Oberhausen (Arenastraße 1). Admission starts at 12 PM, official start at 1 PM, end at 5 PM. In the outdoor area, children can expect bouncy castles, carousels, and face painting stations. A special feature for 2026 is Sneaker Customizing with streetwear designer TiSe – children will design sneakers using fabric markers, stickers, and acrylic sprays. Katta and his friends will perform on stage several times throughout the day, along with dance and magic elements.
Admission prices: €9 for children aged 3+, €18 for adults. Children under 3 years old have free admission. The event explicitly emphasizes accessibility: there is an elevated viewing platform for wheelchair users, and companions of individuals with severe disability passes receive free admission. Strollers and backpacks are allowed; however, outside food and drinks are not permitted, as catering is provided by on-site food trucks (slushies, popcorn, snacks). Payment in the park is via a token system (machine: card only) or cash at individual stations.
The Rudolf Weber-ARENA is one of the larger multi-purpose halls in the western Ruhr area. It is located in the Sterkrade district directly on the Wassergartenboulevard in Oberhausen and offers space for several thousand guests both indoors and outdoors. For the children's festival, a large outdoor area with play equipment and a stage will be set up, supplemented by indoor areas in case of bad weather. Follow-up program: After the children's festival, there will be a Public Viewing for older siblings and parents (6 PM to 10 PM, accessible with the same ticket).
Oberhausen is located between Essen, Duisburg, and Mülheim an der Ruhr in the western Ruhr area (state of North Rhine-Westphalia) – home to CentrO, the Gasometer, and Oberhausen Castle. The city has been positioning itself as an event and leisure destination with a particular focus on families for some time. Events like the Katta Children's Festival fit into this strategy and attract families from the entire Ruhr area and Niederrhein.
