Neighbourhood street flea market in the Saarbrücken district of Herrensohr
The Kaltnaggischer Dorfflohmarkt Herrensohr is the typical form of a yard sale — just bigger, more decentralised, and with a clear neighbourhood character. Instead of a central marketplace, stalls are spread out in front of residential buildings, in front yards, and driveways across the entire district. Colourful balloons mark the participating houses; a map helps with navigation — available both online and in print.
Herrensohr bears the tongue-in-cheek nickname Kaltnaggisch in Saarbrücken dialect — likely handed down from the mining era, when men literally went to work "cold-naked" in shifts. The nickname is now affectionately used and gives the flea market its distinctive name.
Those who visit a village flea market aren't looking for curated antiques — they find what families bring out from their cellars, attics, and garages: children's clothing, toys, dishes, books, tools, vintage furniture, plants, occasionally jewellery or collectibles. The charm lies in the mix and in chatting with residents. Prices are negotiable, often very low — the purpose is the sustainable use of second-hand goods and neighbourhood exchange.
Several local restaurateurs and the Herrensohr Volunteer Fire Department provide snacks and drinks, operating a refreshment stand at their fire station at Petrusstraße 18. Bratwurst, cakes, coffee, drinks — all at village prices.
The organiser is the Local Interest Association (OIV) Herrensohr — a citizens' association committed to the district's concerns. With the flea market, they pursue two goals: promoting the sustainable use of second-hand goods and strengthening the neighbourhood. Registration for stalls is free and can be done online.
Herrensohr is located on the northeastern outskirts of Saarbrücken in the Dudweiler district, nestled between forests and former mining heaps. The district has about 3,000 inhabitants and has retained its own identity — with a school, clubs, a church, and the active OIV. Reference points include the nearby Lydia spoil heap, the former Reden mine, and Saarbrücken city centre, which is reachable by bus in 25 minutes.
The third edition builds on the positive response from previous years. The Local Interest Association Herrensohr coordinates registrations, creates the overview map, and coordinates logistics with the City of Saarbrücken. The location overview will be available on oiv-herrensohr.de from May 18, 2026 — printed copies will be available on the day of the event.
