Family-friendly Jazz Whitsun in the historic Bürgerpark
Bürgerpark Pankow is one of Berlin's oldest public parks, laid out in the 19th century by publisher Hermann Killisch von Horn. With its mature trees, the Mühlenteich (mill pond), a rose garden avenue, and the central music pavilion, it offers the ideal backdrop for an open-air concert format under the sky. The park is located directly in the Pankow district, a five-minute walk from the S+U-Bahn station Pankow.
"Jazz im Park" brings together bands from Berlin and Brandenburg, and occasionally international guests, for Whitsun. The focus is on the music pavilion — a classic concert structure that gives the festival its atmosphere. The musical spectrum isn't limited to jazz: blues, soul, funk, and rock have also shaped the program in recent years. Admission is traditionally free.
Unlike pure concert festivals, "Jazz im Park" is explicitly designed as a family event. Between concerts, bouncy castles, a historic carousel, a small children's train, and water balloon games are part of the regular attractions. An art market featuring local artists complements the musical offerings. For parents with children, the festival is one of the few free open-air venues in Berlin's Whitsun calendar.
Berlin.de confirms that the 2025 edition "did not take place" — according to a press release, 2025 was actually supposed to be the 23rd edition. For 2026, several Pankow sources indicate a return for the "24th edition," although the exact date has not yet been confirmed. The festival usually takes place on Whitsun; in 2026, Whitsun falls on the weekend of May 23–25.
Pankow is Berlin's most populous district and, with its old apartment buildings, parks, and weekly markets, is considered one of the vibrant centers of Berlin family culture. Bürgerpark with "Jazz im Park" symbolizes the independence of Pankow's cultural scene, away from the hustle and bustle of the city center.
Several Pankow sources — including the Familienwegweiser Pankow and the district portal pankow-weissensee-prenzlauerberg.berlin — mention the 24th edition of the festival for 2026. Berlin.de has not yet published a specific date or lineup at the time of publication, but explicitly states that the 2025 edition was cancelled.
As the festival traditionally takes place on Whitsun, the timeframe of May 23–25, 2026 (Whitsun weekend) is likely. Final confirmation from the organizer is expected in spring 2026 — we will update the page as soon as the dates are available.
The complete 2026 program has not yet been published. "Jazz im Park" usually includes the following format:
The current lineup will be communicated on the official Berlin.de event page and on the Facebook page of Bürgerpark Pankow. As the previous edition in 2025 was cancelled, a program in the tradition of the previous 22 editions (focus on jazz + open genre spectrum) is expected.
