Christmas market on Reichsburg Castle with castle flair and a winter Moselle backdrop
Reichsburg Cochem is a magnet for international tourists in the summer, but it reveals a different side in Advent. When the first fairy lights illuminate the courtyards, the walls are bathed in warm light, and the wooden market stalls are set up, the venue transforms into an impressive Advent landscape that unfolds its magic particularly in the cool December air.
The Cochemer Adventszauber takes place on the first weekend of Advent, using the various areas of the castle as its stage. In the outer bailey and the main courtyard, around twenty to thirty stalls offer arts and crafts, regional specialties, Advent decorations, jewelry, Hunsrück gemstones, and small gifts. Several food stations serve red and white mulled wine, non-alcoholic punch, hot chocolate, roasted almonds, bratwurst, tarte flambée, and sweets. The castle's gastronomy complements the offerings with warm meals served indoors.
The program is deliberately designed to be tranquil. Unlike noisy Christmas markets in the valley, the focus is on the castle's atmosphere and the opportunity to spend a contemplative evening in a special ambiance. Musically, individual performances by choirs, brass ensembles, and solo artists provide punctual accents. The lighting of the walls, courtyards, and stalls creates a warm, almost magical mood. The event runs from 11 am to 6 pm on both days and is primarily aimed at a German-speaking audience; tickets are issued via the Reichsburg's website.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by Reichsburg Cochem in late autumn. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years: opening at 11 am on both days, continuous market operation, occasional musical accents by choirs and brass ensembles, lighting in the late afternoon, and market closing at 6 pm. The castle's gastronomy offers warm meals indoors.
