A Market with Centuries-Old Tradition
The Jakobimarkt in Rain is one of the most traditional markets in the region. It has been documented since the early 14th century, and was officially approved in 1359 – at that time still for St. Margaret's Day on July 20th. Rain, the "flower city" on the Romantic Road, is located in the district of Donau-Ries in Bavaria, where the Lech flows into the Danube.
60 to 80 Exhibitors in the City Centre
Every last Sunday in July, around 60 to 80 market stalls line both sides of the main street. The main street and Schlossstraße are closed to traffic from 5:00 AM, allowing the city centre to be dedicated entirely to the market activities. The offerings are diverse:
- Textiles and leather goods
- Kitchen appliances and handicrafts
- Honey products, spices, ice cream
- Candied almonds and chocolate-covered fruits
Open Sunday for Shopping
Local retailers participate with an open Sunday for shopping, opening their stores in the afternoon. In Schlossstraße, there is also a special promotion, and many local businesses attract visitors with discounts and special offers. This combines the historical market with a modern shopping experience.
Atmospheric Market Day
The Jakobimarkt is a firm fixture in the event calendar of the city of Rain and attracts numerous visitors from the Donau-Ries district and beyond every year. Those who appreciate tradition, handicrafts, and culinary diversity will find something here.
