A Tradition for Over 25 Years

The Irish Spring Festival of Irish Folk Music has been Germany's most important Irish folk tour since the late 1990s. Every spring, the festival travels across the country with a curated quartet of artists from Ireland, Scotland, and the Irish diaspora — from Mendig to Bensheim, from Karlsruhe to Saarbrücken. It is one of the few festivals that makes genuine traditional Irish folk music accessible to a broad audience in Germany.

The 2026 Line-up

The 2026 tour features a strong mix of established names and emerging talents:

• Eleanor Shanley & Ultan Conlon — two legends of the Irish ballad. Eleanor Shanley already thrilled the festival audience in 2023 and returns with her singing partner Ultan Conlon.
• Conor Mallon Band — one of the most dynamic new bands on the Irish folk scene.
• Iona Fyfe Trio — Iona Fyfe is one of Scotland's most talented young folk singers, awarded "Musician of the Year" at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards.
• Dance with Lenka Fairy rounds off the evening.

Breite63 as the Venue

The Breite63 at Breite Straße 63 in Saarbrücken's Malstatt district is one of the state capital's most established off-venues. Nestled within the Centre for Education and Vocation Saar (ZBB), the hall offers an intimate concert space with good acoustics — ideal for folk music that thrives on direct contact between artists and audience. The hall isn't huge, which makes the atmosphere particularly intense.

The Irish Spring Festival is more than just a concert series. It's a cultural bridge between Ireland and Germany, with a loyal audience that has been attending for many years and often knows the artists personally. Guinness is served during breaks, Irish dishes are offered, and the atmosphere is more reminiscent of a pub concert in Galway than a German concert hall.

The state capital of the Saarland boasts an unusually active folk scene — likely due to its location on the French border and its traditional university town culture. Breite63 is one of the centres of this scene, hosting concerts, readings, and events throughout the year.
