Nationwide action weeks with the motto »dafür!« (for it!)
The Intercultural Weeks are a Germany-wide initiative that has been implemented locally with local programmes every year in September and October since the 1970s. In Greifswald, the Greifswald Migration Network coordinates the programme together with the city's integration officer. Associations, educational institutions, religious communities, university initiatives, and cultural centres are involved.
The nationwide motto »dafür!« (for it!) focuses on a positive stance towards diversity, democracy, and an open society – deliberately formulated not as an 'anti-' movement, but as an active affirmation of living together in a diverse urban society.
The Greifswald programme typically includes film evenings with subsequent discussions, concerts featuring music from the countries of origin of participating communities, academic and political lectures, sports events, communal cooking, and get-together evenings. Almost all events are free of charge.
The programme booklet is published multilingually at the start of the festival – typically in German, Ukrainian, Arabic, Polish, Persian, and English – and is distributed throughout the city. @interkulturellewoche.hgw provides information on current programme items on Instagram.
Greifswald is part of the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The university and Hanseatic city near the Polish border has a growing migrant population – the Intercultural Weeks provide a particularly visible stage for this diversity once a year.
The 2026 edition of the Intercultural Weeks Greifswald follows the nationwide motto »dafür!« (for it!) and focuses on the active affirmation of diversity, democracy, and living together. From September 27 to October 4, the Greifswald Migration Network, together with numerous partners, is organising a diverse programme.
Planned are film evenings with discussions, concerts featuring music from the countries of origin of participating communities, academic and political lectures, sports events, and communal cooking. The programme booklet will be published in multiple languages and will be available throughout the city from early September.

Almost all events are free of charge. Some workshops or cooking evenings may charge a small fee for materials, a few euros.
The events are spread across various locations in Greifswald – from the city centre to the districts and the harbour. Most venues are accessible on foot, by bike, or by city bus.
Almost all events are free of charge. Programme booklets are available at the town hall, the city library, in cafés, and cultural centres.
