Two days of intercultural encounters on the lakeside promenade on Lake Constance
The Intercultural City Festival Friedrichshafen is one of the most important encounter festivals on the northern shore of Lake Constance. The city of Friedrichshafen — known for its Zeppelin industry, ZF, and its harbor — is also an international gateway to Lake Constance, with residents from over 130 countries of origin. The city festival translates this diversity into a two-day program on the lakeside promenade, directly between the Zeppelin Museum and the harbor train station — with views of the lake and, on clear days, all the way to the Swiss Alps.
At the food stalls along the promenade, Friedrichshafen communities cook live: Turkish, Italian, Vietnamese, Indian, Eritrean, Syrian, Polish, Croatian, Peruvian, and many other cuisines. The stalls are run by local associations, families, and international restaurants — not catering, but authentic home cooking. This is accompanied by Lake Constance wines, regional beers, and cold summer drinks.
On the main stage, folklore groups, international bands, local music associations, and dance groups alternate throughout the day. Turkish folk dance ensembles, Latin American salsa bands, Indian classical music, German-Turkish pop acts, and also the Friedrichshafen city band showcase the musical spectrum. In the evenings, a party and dance stage takes over — DJs, an open-air dance floor, cocktails.
In parallel, there are children's areas with bouncy castles, craft activities, face painting, international games, and hands-on stations from local youth centers. Sports and leisure activities — chess, table tennis, beach volleyball by the lake, small participatory tournaments — fill the promenade. Information and advice stands from refugee aid organizations, integration centers, women's counseling services, and political initiatives are also present.
Friedrichshafen is located in the Bodenseekreis district in the state of Baden-Württemberg, on the northeastern side of the lake, opposite Romanshorn in Switzerland. With the Zeppelin Museum, the Dornier Museum, the Castle Church tower, and the viewing platform in the Mole Tower, the city is one of the most visited Lake Constance destinations. The Intercultural City Festival fits perfectly into this tourist summer backdrop — and turns the weekend into a mix of Lake Constance vacation and world trip on the promenade.
