Hacking goes north

If you know the classic Chaos Communication Congress in Hamburg or Leipzig, you know how the Chaos Community likes to meet: open, curious, low-hierarchy, with a mix of deep tech know-how, societal debate, and creative freedom. InselChaos brings this community to the Baltic Sea – specifically to the grounds of La Grange e.V. in Bergen auf Rügen, a good 20 minutes from the coast. The second edition of the festival takes place from September 4th to 6th, 2026, organized by the Stralsund-based Port39 e.V., an Erfa group of the Chaos Computer Club.

What happens at InselChaos?

A classic hacker camp is built on three pillars: talks and workshops on technology, society, security, and creativity; informal exchange between people who usually meet online; and a supporting program of music, art, and performances. InselChaos combines all of this with the setting of La Grange – an alternative cultural center with a main stage, chillout zones, and outdoor areas suitable for talks, workshops, and concerts alike. The organizers explicitly invite people who want to bring "their favorite microcontroller": soldering stations, hardware tinkering, and soldering workshops are part of the tradition.

A young, but already established tradition

The premiere took place in 2025 – also on the La Grange grounds – and was so well-attended that a second edition was decided upon. The name plays on Rügen's island character and on "Chaos" as the self-image of the CCC-affiliated community. The motto "Hacking goes north" defines the program: a conscious counterpoint to the major events in Berlin, Hamburg, or Leipzig, with space for smaller, slower formats – including campfires, the beach, and deep conversations.

Around it: Rügen in late summer

Early September is one of the most beautiful times for Rügen. The summer tourists have largely departed, water temperatures are often still around 18 degrees Celsius, and the beech forests in Jasmund National Park herald autumn. Visitors to InselChaos can easily extend their weekend with beach days in Binz, Sellin, or Göhren, or plan a day trip to Königsstuhl, Granitz Hunting Lodge, or Stralsund. The town of Bergen auf Rügen is conveniently located in the center of the island (Vorpommern-Rügen district, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) and is directly accessible by train from Berlin, Hamburg, and Rostock.

InselChaos — edition 2026

The second edition of InselChaos takes place from September 4th to 6th, 2026, on the grounds of La Grange e.V. in Bergen auf Rügen. Three days of talks, workshops, music, and encounters from the Chaos Community. Organizer: Port39 e.V., Stralsund.

Second Edition on the Baltic Sea

After the successful premiere in 2025, InselChaos returns to the La Grange grounds in 2026. The organizers call to pack "swim trunks and favorite microcontroller" – a formula that well summarizes the festival's profile: Tech Community meets Baltic Sea summer atmosphere.

Talk, workshop, and performance slots will be awarded via an open Call for Participation. The exact program – main stage, workshop rooms, chillout zones, and outdoor areas – will be published in the weeks before the festival on inselchaos.de and via the Mastodon account @inselchaos.

Programme InselChaos 2026

Program Structure

InselChaos follows the typical Chaos Camp structure:

  • Talks – presentations on tech, IT security, network policy, societal issues, and art-tech interfaces
  • Workshops – hands-on sessions: soldering, microcontrollers, reverse engineering, data protection, creative techniques
  • Music & Performance – concerts and performances on the main stage of La Grange (typically electronica, live coding, experimental acts)
  • Community Spaces – lounges, campfire areas, hacker hangouts in the outdoor area

The detailed schedule with sessions, names, and rooms will be published by the organizers closer to the date on the official website. Submissions via the submission portal are possible until shortly before the festival starts.
