About Bürgerfest Ingolstadt

The Bürgerfest is the largest city festival in the Upper Bavarian city of Ingolstadt. For one weekend in July, the entire pedestrian zone from the Kreuztor to Rathausplatz transforms into a festival mile with several stages, live music, gastronomy, market stalls, sports, and a children's program. In 2026, the festival will take place on July 10th and 11th — organized voluntarily for the first time under the motto "A Festival by Citizens for Citizens", spearheaded by city councilor Karl Ettinger and the Innenstadtfreunde (Friends of the City Center), after the municipal cultural office had previously organized the event itself.

Ingolstadt — The Bürgerfest as an Event of Identity

With over 140,000 inhabitants, Ingolstadt is Bavaria's fifth-largest city, an independent city, and the headquarters of Audi AG. For decades, the Bürgerfest has been the central, open city festival, filling the historic old town with music, gastronomy, and market activities for two full days. The festival mile stretches from the Kreuztor — Ingolstadt's striking late-Gothic city gate and landmark — through the entire pedestrian zone to the Rathausplatz.

The Shift in 2026: Citizens Instead of Cultural Office

Previously, the Bürgerfest was organized by the City of Ingolstadt's Cultural Office (most recently mostly biennially). For 2026, a voluntary citizens' initiative has formed: City Councilor Karl Ettinger, City Council Candidate Oli Munz, and the Innenstadtfreunde Ingolstadt are taking responsibility. The motto "A Festival by Citizens for Citizens" is programmatic — the festival is intended to take place annually in the future, supported by the city community.

What to Expect

  • Several stages along the pedestrian zone — live music in various styles (rock, pop, jazz, singer-songwriter, dance)
  • Gastronomy offerings from Ingolstadt restaurateurs and food trucks
  • Market stalls and showmen
  • Walk-acts and street artists
  • Sports program and interactive stations
  • Dedicated children's and youth program

Safety and Organization

Due to its scale (tens of thousands of visitors), the Bürgerfest is a complex event in terms of safety. The organizers of the 2026 edition, in coordination with the police, THW (Technical Relief Agency), city administration, and security services, have developed a new safety concept that keeps the format viable despite voluntary management.

Ingolstadt and Region 10

Ingolstadt is the center of the Bavarian Region 10 (comprising the districts of Eichstätt, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen, and Pfaffenhofen). The Bürgerfest is not just a city event but also the weekend when residents from the entire region flock to the city on the Danube.

Bürgerfest Ingolstadt — edition 2026

The Ingolstädter Bürgerfest 2026 takes place on July 10th and 11th — organized for the first time by a citizens' initiative around City Councilor Karl Ettinger and the Innenstadtfreunde on a voluntary basis. The festival mile runs from the Kreuztor to the Rathausplatz, featuring several stages, live music, gastronomy, market stalls, sports, and a children's program. Motto: "A Festival by Citizens for Citizens."

Bürgerfest 2026 — The Restart

After being organized biennially by the Ingolstadt Cultural Office, the Bürgerfest returns in a new form in 2026: supported by volunteers, planned annually. The festival mile will stretch across the entire pedestrian zone from the Kreuztor to the Rathausplatz on July 10th and 11th.

Stages and Program Structure

Several stages along the route will feature live music, complemented by walk-acts, a dedicated children's and youth program, as well as sports and interactive stations. Ingolstadt's gastronomy and showmen will be present with stalls. The exact stage and band program will be successively announced by the organizers in the spring of 2026.
