Overview

The Ingolstädter Bürgerfest was traditionally organized by the City's Cultural Office on a biennial basis. 2025 represented a transition year — the citizens' initiative around City Councilor Karl Ettinger was formed to take over the organization for 2026 and establish the festival as an annual event.

A Transition Year

Until now, the Ingolstädter Bürgerfest has been organized every two years by the City's Cultural Office — for example, in 2024 with the festival mile between the Kreuztor and Rathausplatz. For 2025, no major Bürgerfest edition was planned within the classic cycle.

Preparation for the Shift

During 2025, a voluntary initiative formed around City Councilor Karl Ettinger, City Council Candidate Oli Munz, and the Innenstadtfreunde Ingolstadt, with the goal of organizing the Bürgerfest annually in the future, under citizen management, and with the motto "A Festival by Citizens for Citizens." This initiative specifically materialized in the relaunch planned for July 10th and 11th, 2026.
