Summer wine festival in the Stromberg-Zabergäu region
The Freudentaler Weinsommer is part of the summer wine festival season in the Ludwigsburg district. Over a weekend at the end of July, local vintners, restaurant operators, and guests gather around the Stromberg restaurant in Freudental to celebrate the wine culture of the Stromberg-Zabergäu area. The region between Heilbronn and Ludwigsburg is one of Württemberg's most traditional wine-growing areas — Lemberger, Trollinger, Riesling, and Schwarzriesling define its character.
The focus is on the surrounding wineries: family businesses from Freudental, Bönnigheim, Erligheim, Cleebronn, and Pfaffenhofen pour their current vintages. You can taste your way through the typical Württemberg red wines — Lemberger and Trollinger often served as house wines — and discover dry Rieslings, Müller-Thurgau, and rosé wines. Some vintners bring sparkling wine from their own production, others bring brandies and liqueurs.
Live music accompanies the evenings: cover bands from the region, acoustic duos, and occasionally big band sets from the Ludwigsburg-Heilbronn area. The atmosphere is cozy and familiar — a typical southern German wine festival with long beer tables, lanterns, and a touch of 'Hocketse' (gathering) spirit. Children will find their place with play activities and non-alcoholic options.
Freudental is a community of just under 2,500 inhabitants in the north of the Ludwigsburg district, nestled between Stromberg and Zabergäu. The town is known for its classicist castle, which today houses the PKC (Educational-Cultural Center), as well as for its Jewish history with a former synagogue. The Weinsommer at the Stromberg restaurant builds on the region's firmly established wine tradition.
The summer weekend from July 24 to 26, 2026, in Freudental is entirely dedicated to wine. In the courtyard of the Stromberg restaurant, local vintners will be pouring their Lemberger, Trollinger, Riesling, and rosé wines. Live bands will play on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The exact program will be announced shortly before the festival via the municipality of Freudental and the Stromberg restaurant. Those who arrive early will experience the quieter afternoon atmosphere; in the evenings, it gets busier and more musically lively.
