Neighborhood festival with the motto 'Experience Kronsrode' in the new Kronsberg-Süd district
Kronsberg-Süd, or colloquially Kronsrode, is one of the most ambitious new development projects in the city of Hannover. Planned as a climate-friendly district with a high quality of living, social mix, energy-efficient buildings, and well-thought-out traffic planning, a district is growing here in several construction phases, which is scheduled to be completed by the mid-2030s. The Iris-Runge-Platz is the central neighborhood square and meeting place for the residents.
New districts need occasions to come together. The Quartiersfest Kronsrode is one of these occasions. Under the motto 'Experience Kronsrode,' it has been offering an opportunity for several years to make the district visible, build neighborhood networks, and promote engagement. In 2026, the festival will take place on May 9 from 3 PM to 10 PM.
A central stage in the square will feature live music – from local bands, school choirs, acoustic duos, and DJ sets in the evening. Cultural contributions such as dance performances, improv theater sets, or spoken word performances complement the stage program. Several hands-on stations for children are spread across the square: crafts, face painting, bouncy castles, chalk art, small games. Stands from local associations, daycare centers, schools, religious communities, and social initiatives present their work and recruit new members or volunteers.
Several stands offer food and drinks. Classic festival food offerings – bratwurst, fries, crêpes, ice cream, sweets – are complemented by international specialties such as Turkish chicken skewers, Syrian falafel, Vietnamese bánh mì, or Italian pasta. Beer, wine, soft drinks, and coffee are available at several bars. The preparation is usually done by local restaurateurs or associations.
The festival starts at 3 PM and is aimed particularly at families with children during the day. As dusk falls, the focus shifts – live bands, DJ sets, and drink stands characterize the evening hours. The program officially ends at 10 PM, though some stands close earlier. Free admission.
Hannover cultivates an intensive neighborhood festival culture – almost every district has its own festival, from the Vahrenwalder Sommerfest to Lindener Vielfalt to the Kronsberg neighborhood festival. These festivals are an expression of vibrant community life and are supported by the city administration in cooperation with local initiatives.
The complete stage and activity program will be published by the City of Hannover and the district initiatives shortly before the event on hannover.de.
