Lindenkerb in rural Wiesbaden
The Igstadter Lindenkerb is one of Wiesbaden's traditional suburban fairs (Kerb). Igstadt is an eastern district in the so-called Wiesbadener Ländchen – a rural region on the eastern outskirts of the Hessian state capital, which has largely retained its village character despite being incorporated. In 2026, the Kerb runs from June 18th to 21st – four days of festivities with a marquee on the Igstadt fairgrounds.
Four Days of Summer Fair
The Igstadter Lindenkerb follows the classic Wiesbaden Kerb schedule:
- Thursday: Kick-off with beer barrel tapping in the early evening
- Friday and Saturday: Marquee program with live music, catering, and rides for families
- Sunday: Highlight with a traditional Kerbeumzug (parade) through Igstadt – clubs, music groups, and decorated floats parade through the village
- Weekend morning pint as a cozy conclusion
Igstadt – an old village on the outskirts
Igstadt is among the oldest documented settlements in Wiesbaden. The village has largely preserved its rural core with an old church, half-timbered houses, and narrow alleys. The Kerbgesellschaft (fair society) upholds this tradition and organizes the annual suburban festival with other Igstadt clubs. The Lindenkerb is a communal experience – a meeting point for the residents of Igstadt and the surrounding Wiesbadener Ländchen.
Hessian Kerb Tradition
The Kerb (from Kirchweih, meaning church consecration) is a deeply rooted custom in southwestern Hesse and the Rhineland: It originally commemorates the consecration of the local church and became the annual village celebration. The Igstadter Lindenkerb, with its typical mix of marquee, parade, catering, and customs, is an expression of this tradition.
Wiesbaden – City with a rural hinterland
As the Hessian state capital, Wiesbaden is primarily known as a spa town with a casino and a magnificent city center. However, those who want to experience the non-touristy, rural Wiesbaden – with its suburban identity, club life, and customs – will find it at festivals like the Lindenkerb. They are authentically Hessian, often off the tourist routes.
