Opening Dult of the Volksfest season in the Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district
The Pfaffenhofener Maidult is the opening event of the Volksfest season in the Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm district. The venue is the historic town center around the Hauptplatz (main square) of the district town Pfaffenhofen; the organizer is the City of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in cooperation with local associations and showmen.
Unlike the large Volksfests held in tents, the Maidult is a classic Jahrmarkts-Dult (market fair): stalls with arts and crafts, fashion, household goods, plus amusement rides, carousels, shooting galleries, candy stalls, and food stands. The stalls are spread across the Hauptplatz and adjacent alleys; the audience primarily comes from the region and traditionally enjoys the Maidult as a spring outing.
The Maidult marks the start of a cycle of Volksfests that take place throughout the summer months in the district. In 2026, events include the Volksfest Reichertshausen (May 13–17), the Pfingstvolksfest Schweitenkirchen (May 21–25), the Hallertauer Volksfest Wolnzach, the Barthelmarkt Manching-Oberstimm (August 28–31), as well as the Volksfests in Pfaffenhofen and Geisenfeld in September. KUS Strukturentwicklung Landkreis Pfaffenhofen publishes all details in the official event calendar.
Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm is the district capital of the district of the same name, located about 50 km north of Munich, between Ingolstadt and the Hallertau region. The town can be reached by car via the A9 (Pfaffenhofen exit) and by train on the Munich–Ingolstadt–Nuremberg line.
On Sunday, May 3rd, the 2026 Maidult will take over the historic city center of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm with market stalls, amusement rides, showmen, and catering stands. The organizer is the City of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm.
The Maidult is the official opening event of the Volksfest season in the Pfaffenhofen district, which will then continue with Volksfests in Reichertshausen, Schweitenkirchen, Wolnzach, Manching, Pfaffenhofen-Volksfest, and Geisenfeld until September.
