Autumn Market in a Half-Timbered Picture Book

The Idstein Autumn Market is one of the most beautiful autumn market formats in southwestern Hesse. The organizer is Idstein aktiv e.V., the local business initiative that has shaped the town marketing of the Taunus town for years. The venues are the two central squares of the historic old town: Löherplatz and König-Adolf-Platz, framed by some of the most beautiful half-timbered houses in Hesse.

Idstein – Town of 600 Half-Timbered Houses

Idstein belongs to the league of Germany's most beautiful half-timbered towns. With over 600 preserved half-timbered houses from the 16th to 18th centuries, the old town is one of the best-preserved historical ensembles in the state. The Hexenturm (Witches' Tower), Idstein Castle, the Killingerhaus as a landmark – the backdrop for the autumn market could hardly be more beautiful. Idstein is part of the German Timber-Frame Road and, as the district town of the Rheingau-Taunus district, is strategically located between Wiesbaden and Limburg.

Colorful Stalls and Autumn Assortment

Programmatically, the autumn market is classic: arts and crafts, jewelry and accessories, autumn and winter fashion, stationery, children's products, and an extensive gastronomic offer from crêpes and tarte flambée to tapas. The stalls are grouped around the two squares and connect via the half-timbered alleys to form a cohesive market stroll. The autumn decoration of straw, pumpkins, and flowers sets the atmospheric tone: it is a market that subtly stages the harvest festival character.

Pumpkin Carving at Paul's Bauernhof

The visual and programmatic highlight is the pumpkin carving at Paul's Bauernhof. The Idstein farm brings pumpkins to the market, where children and adults can carve their own Halloween sculptures. It is an interactive format that has established itself as a crowd-puller for years – and that transforms the autumn market from a purely consumer format into an interactive town festival. In addition, there is a children's carousel in Rodergasse, caricature artists, and a donation event "Jumping for a Good Cause".

Sunday Shopping and Fashion Shows

The economic anchor is the Sunday shopping on October 11, when Idstein's shops are open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fashion shows with the current autumn-winter collections of local boutiques are held several times a day on a stage at König-Adolf-Platz. This format combines the traditional market character with classic city center marketing and makes the autumn market one of the most important sales dates for Idstein's retail trade.

"Idstaaner Kartoffelsupp" as a Culinary Signature

A culinary specialty of Idstein is the "Idstaaner Kartoffelsupp" – an event where visitors can collect the ingredients for the traditional Hessian potato soup individually from several Idstein shops and prepare it themselves at home. It is a playful staging of a stroll through the city center, which connects town marketing with the market visit and has become a firm ritual for many Idstein visitors.
