One of Europe's largest brass music festivals in the Erzgebirge
Since the early 1990s, the European Brass Music Festival Aue-Bad Schlema has been a firm fixture in the German event calendar for brass music fans. Bands from Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Norway, Switzerland, Great Britain, and Belgium perform for an expectant regular audience that gathers year after year in the Erzgebirge spa town.
The venue is a heated festival tent with 3,200 seats, which is used continuously. Two stages ensure that the program runs without breaks – as soon as one band finishes, the next begins. Over three days, dense programs are created with transitions between miners' bands, town orchestras, brass bands, and symphonic wind orchestras.
Behind the festival is the association Bergmannsblasorchester Aue-Bad Schlema e.V., which also acts as the host ensemble. The connection to the Erzgebirge mining industry, which is characteristic of this region, is reflected in the musical repertoire: miners' songs, chorales, and marches form a core part of the program.
The town of Aue-Bad Schlema was formed in 2019 from the merger of the mining town of Aue with the spa town of Bad Schlema. It is located in the Erzgebirgskreis district (AGS 14521), in the state of Saxony, at the foot of the Erzgebirge mountains and upholds the tradition of centuries of mining and metallurgy. This industrial heritage permeates the entire festival.
Festival visitors usually return year after year – the mix of international top-level performances, a cozy, hospitable festival tent, and the down-to-earth Erzgebirge atmosphere makes the weekend a fixed date in the calendars of many brass music enthusiasts.
Bands from Germany, Italy (South Tyrol), the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Norway, Switzerland, Great Britain, and Belgium travel to the Erzgebirge. In the festival tent with two stages, the program is timed so that one band follows the next seamlessly.
From traditional folk music to symphonic wind orchestras and spectacular police bands, the festival covers the entire spectrum of brass music. The Aue-Bad Schlema Miners' Brass Orchestra, as host, traditionally opens the festival, with other highlights spread across the three festival days.
By car via the A72 (exit Hartenstein or Stollberg-West) and then on the B169/B101 to Aue-Bad Schlema. By train via Zwickau – the Erzgebirgsbahn runs regularly to Aue.
Tickets are available online at blasmusikfest.eu and at regional ticket outlets. Book early – day tickets often sell out two months before the festival begins.
Aue-Bad Schlema and the surrounding towns in the Erzgebirge offer guesthouses and holiday apartments. Early booking is recommended during the festival week.
