About Husumer Hafentage

The Husumer Hafentage is the largest maritime Volksfest (popular festival) on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast: five days of festival mile around the inner harbor, more than thirty live concerts on three stages, a street food festival, the Hafentagelauf race, duck race on the Husumer Au, tug-of-war across the harbor basin, arts and crafts market, and on Sunday the grand fireworks in the inner harbor. A tribute to Husum, to Storm, to the grey city by the sea – and to the North Sea.

Five Days of Harbor Festival on the Wadden Sea

The Husumer Hafentage has been the largest and most popular Volksfest (popular festival) on the Schleswig-Holstein North Sea coast since the 1980s. For five days and nights, the Husum inner harbor transforms into a festival mile – a chain of stages, street food trucks, market stalls, carousels, bars, and beach chairs stretching from the outer harbor, across the Schiffbrücke, and deep into the old town.

The Motto: "Mok fast in Husum!"

The Low German festival motto "Mok fast in Husum!" (roughly: "Get a move on, celebrate in Husum!") captures the spirit of the Hafentage: local, maritime, and with a wink. Around 200 program items combine amusement rides, music, sports, and tradition. Three stages – the stages of VR-Bank, E-TEC, and Stadtwerke Husum – host events from Wednesday evening to Sunday.

Live Music, Street Food, and Family Zone

More than thirty live concerts are spread across the festival days: regional bands, cover bands, Schlager acts, and comedy rock. The musical program is complemented by a street food festival with food trucks and stalls, an arts and crafts market in the inner courtyard of the castle, a flea market, a family zone with a bouncy castle, puppet theater, and face painting, a beach lounge, and – weather permitting – stand-up paddling in the harbor.

Hafentagelauf, Duck Race, and Tug-of-War

Sports and spectacle are part of the event: the CJ Schmidt Hafentagelauf starts on Sunday with distances for children, students, and adults (5 and 10 km, half marathon). The duck race for a good cause sends thousands of small plastic ducks down the Husumer Au. During the tug-of-war across the harbor basin – one of the most iconic moments of the Hafentage – two teams try to pull each other across the water with ropes and muscle power, often resulting in involuntary dives.

Husum – The Grey City by the Sea

Husum is the district capital of Nordfriesland and, with around 23,000 inhabitants, the economic and cultural center of the North Frisian coast. Theodor Storm called it "the grey city by the sea" – a nickname Husum proudly carries to this day. The inner harbor is the historic heart of the city: a picturesque harbor basin from the 17th century, framed by the Speicher (warehouse) and the Schiffbrücke (ship bridge), giving Husum its unmistakable maritime character. When the Hafentage set up their festival mile here, this backdrop becomes an open-air stage of unique atmosphere.

Husumer Hafentage — edition 2026

The 43rd Husumer Hafentage will take place from August 12 to 16, 2026, at the inner harbor. Five days of festival mile with over 30 concerts on three stages, a street food festival, the Hafentagelauf race, a duck race, an arts and crafts market, and the traditional fireworks on Sunday night over the inner harbor.

Date and Format 2026

The 43rd Husumer Hafentage are officially confirmed for August 12 to 16, 2026 – five days of programming at and around the inner harbor, from Wednesday evening to Sunday closing. The organizer is Messe Husum & Congress GmbH & Co. KG together with the city of Husum and a network of associations, restaurateurs, and artists.

Three Stages, Over 30 Concerts

The VR-Bank Stage, the E-TEC Stage, and the Stadtwerke Husum Stage form the musical backbone of the Hafentage. The complete 2026 lineup will be announced by the organizer and via the portal husumerleben.de before summer 2026. As in previous years, expect regional bands, cover acts, Schlager artists, an 80s live show, and comedy rock.

Sports, Spectacle, and Family

On Sunday, the CJ Schmidt Hafentagelauf starts with various distances. During the festival days, the duck race on the Husumer Au, the tug-of-war across the harbor basin, the cutter parade, the arts and crafts market in the castle courtyard, the flea market, and the family zone with a bouncy castle and face painting are all part of the regular program.

Grand Fireworks on Sunday Night

The event concludes with the fireworks in the inner harbor on Sunday, August 16, 2026, around 10:45 PM. It is one of the most visually striking moments of the Hafentage – thousands of visitors gather at the harbor edge to witness the lights over the water, the Speicher, and the Schiffbrücke.
