Berlin's first and only Christmas market for dogs and their owners in Forsthaus Paulsborn in Grunewald
Berlin is considered one of the most dog-friendly major cities in Europe — from its liberal dog off-leash policies in Grunewald and Tegel to specialized dog cafés and dog yoga studios. In 2012, Sirius GmbH had the idea to bring this affinity into the Advent season: Berlin's first and only Christmas market where dogs are welcome and are the focus of the product range. Today, the Hundeweihnachtsmarkt is one of Berlin's most distinctive Christmas formats.
The venue is Forsthaus Paulsborn at Hüttenweg 90 — a historic forester's lodge from the 19th century, located directly on Grunewaldsee and in the middle of the Grunewald dog off-leash area. The location is ideal: dog owners can take a walk in the forest before or after visiting the market, the dog can run off-leash, and the market itself takes place outdoors around the forester's lodge.
The stalls offer:
For the humans: mulled wine, punch, bratwurst, crêpes — the classic Christmas market catering.
From the admission fee of €2.50 per person, one euro goes to an animal welfare organization — a conscious charitable component of the format that has been in place since its inception.
With around 3,000 hectares, Grunewald is Berlin's largest forest area, located in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district between Wannsee and Halensee. With the lakes Grunewaldsee, Schlachtensee, and Wannsee and generous dog off-leash areas, it is the central recreational and dog destination in West Berlin. The Hundeweihnachtsmarkt at Forsthaus Paulsborn is the natural Advent meeting point for this dog community.
The 2026 edition will be held on the usual date — the weekend before or on the 1st Advent, at Forsthaus Paulsborn in Grunewald. The exact dates and opening hours will be published in autumn 2026 on the Berlin Christmas Market database from berlin.de and visitberlin.de.
The format has remained stable since its inception in 2012: stalls around the forester's lodge with dog items, catering with mulled wine and Christmas snacks for people, dogs are explicitly welcome and are the focus of the product range.
A walk in Grunewald — Grunewaldsee is 5 minutes from the forester's lodge, with a large off-leash area for dogs. In winter, with snow, it's one of the most beautiful walking spots in Berlin.
Admission €2.50 per person. Of this, €1 goes to an animal welfare organization. Dogs are free. Catering and goods at the stalls at usual Berlin Christmas market prices.
