The Hüttentour Südlohn is one of the most charming gourmet events in the Westmünsterland: a cycling day (or hiking day) through the meadows, forests, and small roads around Südlohn and its district Oeding, stopping at 11 huts serving regional and international specialities. From Münsterland ham sandwiches to Bavarian delicacies and Indian curry — the culinary spectrum is the programme. The next edition starts on Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 11 AM.

37.5 km — or shorter

The main route measures 37.5 km and can be shortened into 4 partial routes (8.4 to 14.5 km) — suitable for families with children, less athletic cyclists, or hikers. No one has to visit all 11 huts: choose the route according to your fitness and appetite.

11 Huts, 11 Atmospheres

Each hut has its own character and culinary speciality — from rustic snacks to small gourmet breaks. The range typically includes:

• Münsterland Specialities — ham, Pumpernickel, brown bread with regional cheese
• Bavarian — pretzels, Weisswurst, Leberkäse
• Indian — curry, naan, spicy snacks
• Italian — pizza, antipasti, pasta
• Sweets, ice cream, drinks, draft beer at several stations

31 Sights Along the Way

The route is not just a gourmet circuit but also a cultural tour through Südlohn-Oeding: 31 signposted sights — mills, historic buildings, farmhouses, chapels, wayside crosses, landscape monuments — tell the story of the Westmünsterland border region with the Dutch Achterhoek. No Pre-registration — Just Start Cycling

The concept is deliberately accessible: no pre-registration, no ticket. Anyone who wants to join simply shows up at one of the huts or the official starting point from 11 AM and follows the signage. The huts charge individually per dish — you only pay for what you consume.

Hiking Instead of Cycling

The tour is officially designed as a 'cycling tour' but is also suitable for hiking — especially the shorter partial routes (8.4 km). Komoot tracks and a dedicated Facebook page provide current information.

Südlohn and Oeding in the Westmünsterland

Südlohn is located in the west of the Borken district, directly on the border with the Netherlands. The municipality comprises the two districts of Südlohn and Oeding, with a total population of just under 9,000.
