Traditional May fair in the Krefeld district of Hüls – four days of carousels, shooting galleries, and Lower Rhine conviviality on the festival grounds Auf dem Graben
With around 12,000 inhabitants, Hüls is one of the larger districts of Krefeld – a city with almost 230,000 inhabitants on the left bank of the Rhine in the Lower Rhine region. Until 1929, Hüls was an independent municipality in the Kempen-Krefeld district, and the town was only incorporated late. This independent history is still reflected today in the self-confidence of the people of Hüls: their own parish church, their own Hüls landmark with the Hüls mountain, their own shooting clubs – and their own spring fair, which has nothing to do with the fair in Krefeld's city center.
The spring fair is a classic Lower Rhine district fair – compact, personal, and tailored for families.
The fair traditionally runs from Thursday to Sunday in May. In 2026, this falls on May 14–17. The opening on Thursday morning with city representatives and showmen officially marks the start – from then on, all rides and stalls are open daily from 2 PM to 10 PM (on Thursday and Sunday from 11 AM). The festival grounds Auf dem Graben, at the corner of Bruckersche Straße, is the traditional venue for fair events in Hüls.
The city of Krefeld cultivates a distinct fair tradition in its districts. In spring and summer, the Hülser Frühjahrskirmes, Uerdinger Kirmes, Krefelder Innenstadtkirmes, and Linner Kirmes alternate – each with its own character and district pride. The Hülser Frühjahrskirmes opens this series every year in May and is considered the most family-friendly of Krefeld's district fairs.
The 2026 edition follows the classic four-day format. Opening on Thursday morning with representatives from the city of Krefeld and the showmen, followed by rides, games, and stalls open continuously until Sunday evening. The city of Krefeld coordinates the safety concept with the fire department and police.
Admission to the fair is free. Ride prices vary depending on the ride (usually €2–€5 per ride). Strip tickets offer discounts at some stalls.
By car via the A57 (exit Krefeld-Hüls), then follow signs to the festival grounds. By train to Krefeld Hauptbahnhof, then take bus line 077 or 056 to Hüls (stop Hülser Markt). During the fair, an extended parking lot will be designated on Bruckersche Straße.
Admission to the fair is free. You only pay for rides, games, and food.
Thursday, May 14: 11 AM–10 PM (Opening Day). Friday, May 15: 2 PM–10 PM (with Happy Hour 3 PM–4 PM). Saturday, May 16: 2 PM–10 PM. Sunday, May 17: 11 AM–10 PM.
If you are coming with children, plan for the Happy Hour on Friday or Sunday morning. Family tickets and strip tickets are available at some stalls – it's worth asking. Cash is recommended.
