The neighbourhood festival with the longest staying power
In Duisburg-Homberg, the traditional district on the left bank of the Rhine, there has been a neighbourhood festival for over 40 years that connects generations: the Homberger Brunnenfest. Organized by the Bürgerverein Die Homberger e.V. — which until recently operated under the name “Werbering Homberg” — the festival fills the Augustastraße and Bismarckplatz in Alt-Homberg every June.
June 12th-14th, 2026 — three days around the fountain
The 2026 edition runs from Friday, June 12th to Sunday, June 14th. The program is diverse and consciously aimed at all generations:
- Live music on the festival mile — cover bands, local acts, classics, and current hits
- Culinary delights from the region and international — bratwurst, fries, crêpes, cocktails, regional specialties
- Flea market with private stalls — bargain hunting among bric-a-brac and small furniture
- Art & Crafts — stalls by local artists and craftspeople with jewelry, ceramics, woodwork
- Children's activities — craft and play stations, carousel, face painting
- Community fair — stalls of Homberg associations, sports clubs, and initiatives with hands-on activities
- Senior and family information on-site
„Die Homberger“ — the citizens' association behind it
Behind the Brunnenfest is the Bürgerverein Die Homberger e.V., which has held the district together for decades. Applications for stalls — flea market, art, crafts, associations, information booths — are processed via the website diehomberger.de or by email to [email protected]. The association also organizes regular meetups and supports local initiatives.
Alt-Homberg — the charming address
Alt-Homberg is the historic center of the Duisburg district Homberg/Ruhrort/Baerl on the left bank of the Rhine. The Augustastraße is the main shopping street with small shops, restaurants, and cafés. The Bismarckplatz, with its fountain — the namesake of the festival — is the social heart of the neighbourhood. During the Brunnenfest, both streets are closed to car traffic.
Duisburg — city on the water
Duisburg is located in the western Ruhr area, at the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers. With around 500,000 inhabitants and the largest inland port in Europe, Duisburg is an industrial city with a rich tradition. On the left bank of the Rhine — where Homberg is located — a quieter, small-town character has been preserved, which is particularly evident during the Brunnenfest.
