Hofweinfest in the Franconian wine village Untereisenheim am Main
The Hofschoppenfest Weinerlebnis Stühler is one of the typical Franconian courtyard wine festivals that characterize the weekends around Volkach on the Mainschleife. For three days, the Weingut Stühler (Stühler Winery) in Untereisenheim opens its courtyard to guests – wine tasting, courtyard cuisine, and live music, along with the Schoppen glass in the Bocksbeutel shape, are inextricably linked.
The Stühler family cultivates its own vineyards in the large Volkacher Mainschleife growing area – one of Franconia's most famous wine-growing regions. The estate's own wines are served at the courtyard: dry Silvaner (Franconia's leading grape variety), Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Rieslaner, as well as red wines like Domina and Spätburgunder. The Franconian Schoppen glass "Bocksbeutel-Schoppen" (0.25 l) is standard.
To accompany the wine, the courtyard kitchen offers Franconian specialties: sausages from the charcoal grill, "Winzerschnitzel" (vintner's schnitzel), homemade lard bread with radishes, cheese platters with Franconian cheese, and "Brotzeit" (a selection of cold cuts and bread). A small live stage provides atmospheric music on Friday and Saturday evenings – usually acoustic cover bands or Franconian singer-songwriters; Sunday mornings often feature brass music during the "Frühschoppen" (morning pint).
Untereisenheim is one of four districts of the municipality of Eisenheim (Lkr Würzburg, Lower Franconia administrative region), located directly on the Main river between Volkach and Schweinfurt. The village has around 700 inhabitants and is surrounded by vineyards; the Volkacher Mainschleife with the famous Vogelsburg castle is just a few kilometers away. The Hofschoppenfest is part of the Franconian wine festival calendar, maintained by frankenwein-aktuell.de.
Unlike large city wine festivals, courtyard wine festivals are small, personal, and uncomplicated. Guests sit at beer table sets in the courtyard, the vintner is present, knows their wines, and is happy to explain them. The charm of these festivals lies in the direct contact between vintner and guest – a piece of Franconian wine culture that has shaped the Mainschleife for generations.
The Hofschoppenfest Stühler 2026 runs for three days from Friday, July 10, to Sunday, July 12, 2026. Opening hours are from 6 PM on Friday, 5 PM on Saturday, and 11 AM on Sunday – with brass music "Frühschoppen" on Sunday.
The estate's own wines will be served: dry Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Rieslaner, Domina, Spätburgunder. The courtyard kitchen offers grilled sausages, "Brotzeiten", and Franconian specialties. Live music accompanies the evenings.
The exact music lineup will be announced before the festival on local posters and via the municipality of Eisenheim eisenheim.de/gaesteportal/veranstaltungen.
