Punk in a former bunker

There are festivals born with marketing budgets from big cities — and there are those that grow in a bunker music pub on the edge of a village. The Hölle im Holz Festival belongs to the latter category. On the grounds of the Bunker Musikkneipe Heyrothsberge, a former military bunker that is now one of the most important subculture locations in the Magdeburg area, punks from all over Saxony-Anhalt and beyond will gather on June 6 and 7, 2026.

Heyrothsberge is a district of the municipality of Biederitz in the Jerichower Land district, east of Magdeburg. The Bunker Musikkneipe is operated by the Brausebeat collective and has been a regular fixture for punk, rock, and underground concerts in the region for years.

Seven bands, one day, one night

The 2026 lineup features seven bands from the punk and punk rock spectrum: Chefdenker, Alien Fight Club, Hartmut und Freunde, Inner Conflict, Von Hölle, and other acts. Performances run from 3 PM to 10 PM outdoors, followed by a request disco in the bunker and the outdoor bar.

What sets Hölle im Holz apart is its DIY format: no frills, fair prices (admission €25), free camping, free parking, a vegan food truck, a vinyl stall (Hot Rats Magdeburg), a shirt stall (Shirtmanufaktur Haldensleben), and a tattoo station (Eisenherz Magdeburg). It's a festival that values community, not order books.

The state of Saxony-Anhalt and the punk scene

Saxony-Anhalt has its own history with the punk movement — in the GDR years, Magdeburg and Halle were important punk centers. This tradition lives on in festivals like Hölle im Holz, in clubs like the Volksbad in Magdeburg or the Reil 78 in Halle. For a young audience that continues to live this subculture, such events are indispensable.
