212th Historical Victory Festival with bivouacs and battle reenactments
On August 23, 1813, Prussian troops under General von Bülow faced Napoleon's army under Marshal Oudinot just outside the gates of the then village of Großbeeren — and stopped Napoleon's advance on Berlin. The first commemoration festival was celebrated as early as 1814. This evolved into the Historical Victory Festival Großbeeren, which today ranks among the oldest continuously celebrated commemorations in Germany. The 212th edition will be celebrated in 2026.
The festival runs from Friday, August 21, to Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Old Manor Courtyard at Rathaus 1 in 14979 Großbeeren. Opening hours: Fri 4 PM–12 AM, Sat 12 PM–2 AM, Sun 11 AM–6 PM. Reenactment groups from all over Central Europe set up their camps, demonstrating battle formations, firing salutes, and showcasing 19th-century camp life in historically accurate uniforms.
Alongside the military reenactment, Jüttner Entertainment organizes a classic folk festival. A historic traders' lane with blacksmiths, bakers, artisans, and sutlers lines the manor courtyard; live music ranges from marches and folk to an open-air concert on Saturday evening. The blend of historical depth and Brandenburg festival culture is the hallmark of the event.
Großbeeren is located in the Teltow-Fläming district, about 15 km south of Berlin. The battlefield is now accessible via memorial stones and a historical hiking trail; the events of 1813 were honored in 1913 for the 100th anniversary with an observation tower in the town center. Those interested in history can combine the weekend with a hike to the memorial sites.
In the reenactment scene, the Victory Festival is considered top-tier: groups from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Russia travel here. Those who want to experience the military camp life of the Wars of Liberation — uniforms, black powder, campfires, bivouac romance — will find one of Brandenburg's most authentic open-air experiences here.
Organization: Jüttner Entertainment. Detailed program will be published shortly before the festival weekend on hauptstadtkultur.berlin and grossbeeren.de.
The detailed program for the 212th edition will be communicated by the organizer Jüttner Entertainment shortly before the festival weekend. The structure follows previous years:
Take the S-Bahn line S2 from Berlin to Großbeeren (approx. 30 min), then walk about 15 minutes to the Town Hall. By car: B101 or A10 exit Ludwigsfelde-Ost. Parking is signposted near the Town Hall.
Details on ticket prices will be announced by the organizer Jüttner Entertainment before the festival weekend.
Due to the battle reenactments involving black powder: hearing protection for children is advisable. Sturdy footwear is recommended, as the terrain is partly unpaved manor courtyard.
