The Lucas Cranach Town celebrates its history in the historic Upper Town
Kronach in the Franconian Forest Nature Park is the birthplace of the Renaissance painter Lucas Cranach the Elder and boasts one of Germany's largest preserved fortress complexes with the Rosenberg Fortress. At the Historic Town Spectacle, the citizens of Kronach celebrate their own history – right in the middle of the magnificently preserved Upper Town.
The historic Upper Town is the venue: the magnificent festival market stretches from Melchior-Otto-Platz via Lucas-Cranach-Straße to the Market Square. The alleys are brought to life with historical camp life, flag bearers, and costumed participants.
On Saturday and Sunday, over 50 stalls of a historic craft market present their products. Visitors can watch the craftspeople as they traditionally make jewellery, leather goods, or wooden tools. The Kronach groups put in a full effort with juggling, shooting demonstrations, theatre scenes, and hands-on activities for young and old.
Jugglers, dancers, and captivating music enthral in the alleys, while a culinary journey through historic cuisine – from hearty sausages to sweet treats – caters to your physical well-being. Fire shows and children's activities such as archery, crafts, and face painting round off the programme.
