17th edition of Europe's largest indoor nostalgia funfair in the Bochum Jahrhunderthalle
Anyone entering the Bochum Jahrhunderthalle on a February evening feels as if they've fallen into another century. The former gas blower engine hall of the Bochumer Verein – one of the most spectacular industrial cathedrals in the Ruhr area – fills with antique carousels, game stalls, showman wagons, and fairy lights for the Historic Fair. The 17th edition runs from Saturday, February 14 to Sunday, March 1, 2026, over three weekends and is considered Europe's largest historic indoor funfair.
The heart of the fair consists of historic rides, many of which have long disappeared from the regular funfair scene:
Around the carousels, there are showman wagons, shooting galleries, almond stalls, gingerbread stands, and artisan market stalls. Showmen in historical costumes share anecdotes, and street performers entertain between the rides. The atmosphere is a blend of early 20th-century big-city fair and a nostalgic journey through time.
The hall was built in 1902, initially as an engine hall for the Düsseldorf Industrial Exhibition, later moved to Bochum and integrated into the Bochumer Verein power plant. Since 2003, it has been a venue for the RuhrTriennale and Bochum's most prominent event location. Its dimensions, cast-iron columns, and industrial history give the fair an impact that no outdoor fairground can match.
Bochum (375,000 inhabitants) is located in the heart of the Ruhr area in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. After the end of hard coal mining, the city has developed into a center for science, industrial culture, and the creative economy. The Jahrhunderthalle is part of the Industrial Heritage Trail and a venue for the Ruhrtriennale.
Three weekends of nostalgic funfair at Europe's largest historic indoor funfair. The Bochum Jahrhunderthalle transforms from February 14 to March 1, 2026, with antique carousels, costumed showmen, and themed programs – Steampunk, Rock'n'Roll, family nostalgia. Admission prices include unlimited use of all rides.
