Neighborhood Christmas market around the church in Tübingen's Hirschau district
Hirschau is one of twelve districts of Tübingen – and with around 2,600 inhabitants, it's more of a village on the outskirts than an urban area. This is precisely what defines the Hirschau Christmas Market: not a mass market like Tübingen's famous Christkindlesmarkt in the old town, but a neighborhood festival supported by the people of Hirschau themselves. The 'Unser Hirschau' association coordinates the activities – clubs, kindergartens, schools, and individuals provide stalls, mulled wine, and entertainment.
The event takes place around Hirschau Church and in Grabenstraße near the community center. The area is manageable, and the atmosphere is familiar. This is its strength: those who come, stay – and usually end up knowing more Hirschau families than stalls.
The market was first held in 2024, followed by the second edition in 2025. November 28 is confirmed for 2026 – the format has apparently proven successful. Its conception as a purely neighborhood market without large commercial stalls has made the market a topic of conversation in Hirschau.
Hirschau is located about 4 km west of Tübingen's city center, on the Neckar river, in the Tübingen district (state of Baden-Württemberg). Originally an independent municipality, Hirschau was incorporated into Tübingen in 1972 – but has retained a strong village identity to this day. This identity is a driving force behind the Christmas market: it ensures that Hirschau doesn't become a generic suburb but remains recognizable as an independent place with its own Advent atmosphere.
The third edition consolidates the format: a neighborhood market instead of a tourist festival, club participation instead of commercial vendors, a family atmosphere instead of a large event. The market runs from early afternoon into the evening – open from 1 PM to 8 PM.
The 'Unser Hirschau' association will publish the exact list of stalls and performance times on hirschau-aktuell.de.
