Village Community as a Festival

Pfäffingen, one of six districts of the municipality of Ammerbuch in the Tübingen district, maintains a vibrant tradition spanning decades with its annual street festival on the second weekend of September. The 2026 edition will take place on Saturday, 12 September, and Sunday, 13 September. The event is organised by Pfäffingen's local clubs – the Music Association, Sports Club, Liederkranz (singing club), Marksmen's Club, Fire Brigade Association, as well as the Women's Association and the Rural Youth – in cooperation with the Ammerbuch municipal administration. The festival extends across the town centre, closing off parts of the main street for two days.

Frühschoppen Concert by the Entringen Music Association

A traditional element of the Sunday programme is the Frühschoppen concert by the Entringen Music Association – another district of Ammerbuch. For years, the musicians have walked from Entringen to Pfäffingen and, starting at 11:00 AM, will perform a concert programme of brass music classics, traditional marches, and modern wind ensemble pieces. This solidarity between the Ammerbuch clubs is a hallmark of the municipality: at every district festival, clubs from other districts lend a hand, ensuring a high musical standard.

Culinary Stands by the Clubs

Each participating club in Pfäffingen runs its own stand. The culinary offerings are traditionally distributed: the Sports Club grills sausages and steaks, the Music Association serves beer and wine, the Women's Association bakes cakes and offers coffee, the Rural Youth takes care of cocktails and long drinks late in the evening, and the Marksmen's Club provides sauerkraut with dumplings (Maultaschen) and other dishes. Every family in Pfäffingen can name their favourite stand – the stands are meeting points for generations.

Two-Day Programme

On Saturday afternoon, the festival opens with performances by Pfäffingen's children's groups – dance, acrobatics, theatre. In the evening, a cover band plays; traditionally, people dance late into the night in Pfäffingen. Sunday morning begins with the Frühschoppen concert by the MV Entringen, followed by lunch and an afternoon programme with children's activities, a tombola, and performances by local clubs. The festival concludes around 6:00 PM.

Ammerbuch – A Municipality of Six Villages

Ammerbuch was formed in 1971 from the six villages of Pfäffingen, Entringen, Altingen, Reusten, Breitenholz, and Poltringen – a classic southern German municipal reform. Today, around 11,500 people live in this geographically large municipality in the Ammer Valley, north of Tübingen. Each district has its own festival, and each festival has its own character. The Pfäffinger Straßenfest is one of the most charming among the Ammerbuch club festivals, with an unbroken, vibrant tradition.
