Hilchenbacher Rocksommer — Live Music Under the Open Sky

When the center of Hilchenbach becomes an open-air stage on three Fridays during the summer holidays, it's Rocksommer time. July 24, July 31, and August 7, 2026 — each Friday from 6 PM to 10 PM — regional bands from Siegerland and South Westphalia offer a four-hour live program with free admission. The concept is simple: stage, bands, beer stands, bratwurst, and summer atmosphere — combined with the idea of revitalizing urban life during the summer when many adults in Hilchenbach are looking for a relaxed end to the day after work.

Three Fridays, Three Bands — The Format

Three Fridays in a row, a different act each time:

• Friday, July 24, 2026, 6–10 PM — Opening concert
• Friday, July 31, 2026, 6–10 PM — Middle concert
• Friday, August 7, 2026, 6–10 PM — Closing concert

The bands are usually regional acts from Siegen-Wittgenstein and the adjacent Olpe-Wittgenstein area: cover bands (rock classics from Bon Jovi to Foo Fighters), singer-songwriters, funk cover acts, occasionally German pop acts or Schlager bands for the older audience. The exact band selection for 2026 will be officially announced by Getränke Stenger and the city marketing department shortly before the summer.

Concept — Cozy, Free, Communicative

Unlike large festival events, the Rocksommer focuses on a manageable size: no ticket barrier, no security checks, no mass parties — but an open stage in the city center where visitors can come and go, chat with each other, drink beer, and listen to music. This fits the South Westphalian ideal of being down-to-earth, sociable, and not over the top. Getränke Stenger, the well-known Hilchenbach beverage supplier and long-time sponsor, provides the beer and drinks; local food stalls offer bratwurst, fries, and snacks.

Hilchenbach — The Siegerland Steel Town in the Rothaargebirge

The town of Hilchenbach, with its approximately 14,000 inhabitants, is located in the northern Siegerland, in the transitional area to the Rothaargebirge — and looks back on a long tradition as a steel town. The steel industry (with plants from Salzgitter Mannesmann and SMS group) still shapes the economy today; at the same time, Hilchenbach is a starting point for tourists exploring the Rothaarsteig (top hiking trail) or the Lützel ski resort. Worth seeing are the Wilhelmsburg castle as a landmark and the local history museum. The Hilchenbach town center with its market square and parish church provides the visual backdrop for the Rocksommer.

Siegen-Wittgenstein District — Steel, Forests, and the Rothaarsteig

The Siegen-Wittgenstein district is located in the south of Westphalia, in the Hochsauerland region — and is considered one of the most heavily wooded regions in Germany. The steel industry (Siegen, Kreuztal, Hilchenbach), the university (Siegen), and nature tourism (Rothaarsteig, Edersee, Wittgensteiner Land) characterize the region. The event calendar highlights include the Siegen city festival, the Hilchenbacher Rocksommer, the Bad Berleburg Heimatfest, and numerous Schützenfeste. The Rocksommer is one of the oldest open-air summer formats in the region.
