Sport to Touch in the Middle of the Ruhr Area

Herne Sports Day follows a simple idea: Anyone who wants to try a new sport should be able to do just that — without membership, without pre-registration, for free, and in the middle of one of the most beautiful parks in the Ruhr area. The Stadtsportbund Herne therefore invites you to its big action day in Revierpark Gysenberg every year shortly before the summer holidays. Swimming, diving, handball, karate, climbing, dancing — around 20 clubs and institutions are there.

Concept of the Day

• Hands-on stations spread throughout the park — try it out directly, without prior experience
• Show performances on an action area — from dance to martial arts to acrobatics
• Club stands with information on training times, fees, and taster offers
• Family program with children's activities and bouncy castles
• Cultural participation — the local carnival club and cultural organizations are also regularly represented

Revierpark Gysenberg: The Sports Center of the Region

Revierpark Gysenberg at Am Revierpark 22 in Herne has been fundamentally redesigned in recent years and is now one of the most modern sports and leisure areas in the Ruhr area. With wide lawns, paths, a lake, and integrated sports facilities, it offers the ideal backdrop for a major event like the Sports Day.

Herne in the Ruhr Area

Herne is one of the medium-sized cities in the Ruhr area in North Rhine-Westphalia, located between Bochum, Gelsenkirchen, and Recklinghausen. Known primarily for the Cranger Kirmes (a large funfair), the city also sets important sporting and cultural accents in its event calendar with the Sports Day and the Strünkeder Sommer. The Stadtsportbund Herne, based at Bahnhofstraße 143, is the driving force as the umbrella organization of Herne's sports clubs.
