Wine hike and open-air dance festival in the vineyards above the Ahr
The Burgunderfest is one of the more unique wine events in the Ahr Valley. The day begins with a wine hike at 11 AM and ends in the evening with an open-air dance festival. Three wineries, representing three defining styles of the Ahr, combine their energies for this event: Sonnenberg, Lingen, and Burggarten. Together, they create an experience that is more than the sum of its parts.
The hiking route is about eight kilometers long and takes approximately one and a half hours to complete. At four stations, the vintners will be pouring their Pinot Noir, Frühburgunder, and Pinot Blanc, with scenic viewpoints and vineyards above Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in between. This tasting on the move also serves as a dramatic arc, leading to the main venue at its end.
From 5 PM onwards, the festival atmosphere begins on the meadow: stalls from the three wineries, regional cuisine, and – as the musical highlight – the PGM Bigband, ensuring dancing and a great mood. Those who hiked during the day can wind down the evening here without a car and without any rush.
Over nearly three decades, the Burgunderfest has built up a loyal following. Tickets are cheaper in advance than at the box office, and on-site payment is exclusively in cash – a deliberately old-fashioned detail that fits the character of the festival.
The tasting stations are managed by the three wineries individually; in the evening, the PGM Bigband, a long-standing fixture, performs on the meadow. Tickets are €18 in advance and €22 at the box office. On-site payment is exclusively in cash.
The full detailed program will be published before the festival at burgunderfest.de.
