Once a year, around the first Sunday of Advent, the castle complex transforms into a lovingly staged artisans' market — a fusion of historic architecture and contemporary craftsmanship that makes the market unique.

What sets the Hardegsen Artisans' Market apart from many other Advent markets is its careful curation. Instead of a large number of random stalls, around 40 selected artisans present their respective specialities: ceramics, jewellery design, wood carving, hand-woven textiles, leatherwork, mouth-blown glass objects, wax figures, felt art, and much more. The quality of the work is consistently high.

Meet the Artisans

Unlike at large markets, here you have the opportunity to talk to the artisans personally. Many demonstrate their working methods on-site, talk about their designs, and advise visitors on choosing gifts. This personal encounter gives each purchase a special story.
