Four Days of Volksfest in the Heart of Rheine
With the Herbstkirmes Rheine, the city in the Münsterland region marks one of its most important Volksfest dates from October 16 to 19, 2026. On Elisabethplatz and Emstorplatz, as well as in the adjacent city center, showmen set up their rides, stalls, and food stands. For four days – Friday to Monday – Rheine is in Volksfest mode.
Program and Opening Hours
The program follows a proven Kirmes (fair) dramaturgy with clear daily profiles:
- Friday, October 16 – Family Day with discounted prices. The showmen open at 2 PM, and the Volksfest runs until 1 AM. Family Friday is the smart choice for those coming with children: same attractions, smaller budget.
- Saturday, October 17 – Main Kirmes day, 2 PM to 1 AM. All rides in operation, highest visitor density in the evening.
- Sunday, October 18 – Family Sunday starting at 11 AM. Parallel Sunday Shopping in Rheine's shops from 1 PM to 6 PM. Festival ends at 11 PM.
- Monday, October 19 – Quieter wind-down from 2 PM to 10 PM, ideal for those who want to experience the Volksfest without the weekend crowds.
High-Flying Rides and Centrifugal Forces – The Showmen's Offerings
The city of Rheine concisely summarizes the offerings: "High-flying rides and centrifugal forces, fun and thrills." Visitors can expect:
- Modern Rides – Roller coasters, high-thrill rides, spinning carousels
- Classics – Bumper cars, Ferris wheel, Break Dance
- Children's Carousels – Gentle rides for the little ones
- Shooting Galleries and Game Stalls – Strongman game, dart throwing, coin games
- Food Stalls – Bratwurst, fries, potato pancakes, crêpes
- Sweets – Candy apples, roasted almonds, cotton candy, gingerbread, Schmalzkuchen (traditional fried pastry)
Bus Shuttle Festival Grounds – City Center
A special feature of the Rheine Herbstkirmes: The city provides a free bus shuttle between the two festival grounds (Elisabethplatz and Emstorplatz) and the city center. This allows for a comfortable combination of Volksfest and city stroll – especially convenient on Sunday Shopping day.
Rheine – Central Town in Northern Münsterland
Rheine, with around 77,000 inhabitants, is the largest central town in the Steinfurt district and is located on the Ems River, shortly before the Lower Saxony border. Alongside the Wine Festival in June, the Herbstkirmes is one of the fixed city festival dates that frame the Volksfest year in Rheine. The organizer is the City of Rheine; organizational responsibility lies with Monika Hübschen and Nicola Moz (Tel. 05971 939-322/-349).
