Autumn Fair in Barmen

Wuppertal, the largest city in the Bergisches Land region with around 357,000 inhabitants and an independent city in the administrative district of Düsseldorf, is famous for its suspension railway — and for its packed fair calendar. Berliner Platz in the Barmen district is one of the three main locations for Wuppertal's fair events. In 2026, the city invites you to the autumn fair at Berliner Platz from Friday, October 2nd, to Monday, October 5th.

Four Days of Rides and Refreshments

The autumn fair follows the Bergisches Kirmes tradition: rides (bumper cars, chain carousel, Ferris wheel, or high-thrill rides depending on the setup), skill games (dart throwing, shooting gallery, strongman game), candy stalls (almonds, gingerbread hearts, cotton candy), food stands (bratwurst, fries, crêpes, potato pancakes), and a festival tent with catering. The exact lineup of rides will be published by the showman's association a few days before the fair begins on the city's website.

Monday as Family Day

Monday (October 5th, 2026) is designed as a family day — the showmen offer reduced prices for children, many rides at bargain prices. Families with younger children, for whom the weekend is often too crowded, traditionally use Monday for a relaxed fair visit. The date benefits from many families taking Monday off as a bridging day around the Day of German Unity (October 3rd).

Berliner Platz in Transition

Berliner Platz in Wuppertal-Barmen, located on Berliner Straße / Höhne, is an important event venue throughout the year: in addition to the two annual fair dates (spring fair in March and autumn fair in October), the Barmen weekly market, the farmers' market, and the Christmas market also take place here. The University of Wuppertal is in close proximity — students are among the regular visitors to the fair events.

Wuppertal Fair Calendar

The city of Wuppertal hosts several fair events annually at various locations: in addition to the autumn fair at Berliner Platz, the spring fair also takes place there (March), as well as the fair at Engelnberg in Elberfeld and the Cronenberg fair, which are fixed dates in the calendar.
