Bad Wimpfen — the Stauferstadt on the Neckar
Bad Wimpfen, situated on the high bank of the Neckar in the northern Heilbronn district (AGS 08125), is one of Germany's most beautiful preserved Staufer cities. The 12th-century imperial palace with its towers (Blue Tower, Red Tower) and the medieval old town form a backdrop that holds its own on an international scale. The enjoyment festival Herbst.Musik.Genuss stages this setting once a year at the end of September.
4th Edition of the Festival
The 2026 edition is the fourth of the still young festival – launched in 2023. The concept: two days marking the transition from summer to autumn. Regional wines and sparkling wines (Heilbronn region, Neckar Valley), regional cuisine, coffee and cake from Wimpfen's confectioneries, plus continuous live music on the main stage at the market square.
Saturday — Festival Kick-off with an Extended Evening
Saturday, September 26, 2026, 3 PM–11 PM. The market square stage hosts the musical program with local and regional bands – singer-songwriters in the afternoon, cover bands in the evening. In parallel, the stands of Wimpfen's gastronomy, vintners from the Neckar Valley, confectioners, and artisans open along the main street and in the side alleys of the old town. The illumination of the old town in the evening is a highlight – the half-timbered facades in the twilight.
Sunday — Music, Enjoyment, and Family
Sunday, September 27, 2026, 11:30 AM–8 PM. Early morning pint starting at 11:30 AM with brass music, lunch offers from Wimpfen's gastronomy. Afternoon family program with children's interactive activities, concerts on the main stage, and smaller stations in the old town. In the evening, the festival winds down with a final band – evening sun over the Neckar Valley.
Heilbronn Wine and Regional Cuisine
The region around Bad Wimpfen is a Württemberg wine-growing area – Trollinger, Lemberger, Riesling are grown on the slopes above the Neckar. Wimpfen's confectioneries and bakeries, the inns with Swabian-Franconian cuisine, and the local honey (beekeeping on the hillside) characterize the culinary offerings. The festival is an opportunity to get to know the regional products in a concentrated way.
Getting to the Stauferstadt
Bad Wimpfen is easily accessible by train from Heilbronn and Heidelberg (S-Bahn S1/S41, Bad Wimpfen station). By car via the A 6 (Heilbronn) or the B 27 (Heidelberg). The old town is located on a hillside above the Neckar – parking is available below the town, then walk through the old city gates.
