About Cereal Market Erfurt
Cereal Market Erfurt — edition 2026
2026 Edition — 35th Edition
The 35th edition marks over three decades of harvest market tradition in front of Erfurt Cathedral. Around 100 exhibitors shape the market scene — Thuringian nurseries are the focus, complemented by direct marketers from the Thuringian Basin, regional beekeepers, bakeries, and craftspeople.
The emphasis is on "colorful perennials, winter-hardy plants, flower bulbs, and roses, through to herb pots, spices, and tea, and autumnal floristry" — a complete selection for autumn garden and home decoration.

35 Years of Harvest Market in front of Erfurt Cathedral
The Erfurt Autumn and Cereal Market celebrates its 35th edition in 2026. The name "Cereals" goes back to the Roman goddess of harvest, Ceres — the market has seen itself as a contemporary form of the harvest festival market since the 1990s and is now one of the most traditional fresh produce markets in Central Germany.
Domplatz as a Marketplace
On September 18 and 19, 2026, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day, around 100 exhibitors will occupy Domplatz Erfurt — Europe's largest medieval square and landmark of the Thuringian state capital. Against the backdrop of Erfurt Cathedral and St. Severus Church, the stalls will offer the full spectrum of a classic autumn market:
Plants, Floristry, and Delicacies
- Perennials and Plants — colorful late summer perennials, winter-hardy plants, flower bulbs for spring blooms 2027, roses, herb pots
- Floristry — autumnal bouquets, arrangements, decorative dried materials
- Fruit and Vegetables — directly from Thuringian nurseries and direct marketers
- Honey from regional beekeepers
- Spices and Teas
- Thuringian Bratwurst, baked goods, bakery specialties
- Handicrafts — baskets, leather goods, needlework
Thuringian Nurseries in Focus
The special value of the market lies in its strong regional roots: Thuringian nurseries and direct marketers dominate the exhibitor field. The market is therefore also a showcase of Thuringian horticulture — from Erfurt's city gardens (the garden city tradition since the 19th century shapes Erfurt's cityscape) to small direct marketers from the Thuringian Basin and the Ore Mountains foothills.
Erfurt — Garden City and State Capital
The state capital Erfurt (around 215,000 inhabitants) in the center of Thuringia has a pronounced horticultural tradition. The egapark Erfurt — the former site of the GDR's International Garden Exhibition iga — is now one of the largest garden parks in Germany. This garden city tradition is reflected in the Cereal Market: regional, quality-oriented, with the cathedral as a spectacular backdrop.
