Hennef Christmas Market — the 1st Advent in the Town Centre

The Hennef Christmas Market traditionally takes place on the 1st Advent weekend — in 2026, from Friday, November 27th to Sunday, November 29th. The start of the Advent season in the Sieg town, with a program in the Hennef town centre around the market square and an additional "Hüttenzauber" (hut magic) on Stadtsoldatenplatz.

What Makes the Market Special

The market focuses on a down-to-earth Advent atmosphere without the typical big-city crowds: regional clubs, local exhibitors, crafts, mulled wine, potato pancakes, candied almonds. The stage program — traditionally a mix of choirs, brass band performances, and small bands — is spread over the three days. The organizer is Stadtbetriebe Hennef, a municipal entity.

Sunday Shopping

Like many Christmas markets in NRW, the Hennef market combines market offerings with Sunday shopping in the town centre. Shops will open their doors on market Sunday (November 29th, 2026) — an important driver for retail and town centre footfall.

Hüttenzauber on Stadtsoldatenplatz

In addition to the classic market offerings, Stadtsoldatenplatz hosts a "Hüttenzauber" area — small wooden huts with additional culinary stands, often run by clubs from Hennef town and its districts. This division provides spatial relief and more choice.

With almost 50,000 inhabitants, Hennef (Sieg) is one of the largest towns in the Rhein-Sieg district. The town is located between Bonn and the Bergisches Land region, where the Sieg river flows into the Rhineland. Hennef is one of the economically dynamic medium-sized towns in North Rhine-Westphalia. Together with the Hennef Wine Festival, the town festival "PuR", and the Rose Monday parade, the Christmas market forms the central Volksfest (public festival) dates of the year.
