Four days of festival weekend around the town hall — live music, flea market, club mile, beach volleyball and Sunday shopping
The Heiligenhauser Stadtfest is the largest event in the Heiligenhaus event calendar — and in 2026 it will span four days, from Thursday, June 4 to Sunday, June 7. The organizer is Stadtmarketing Heiligenhaus in cooperation with the city, the Heiligenhaus clubs, and the community of local retailers.
Cover bands, Schlager acts, Rhein-Folk, and pop bands will alternate on the central main stage at the town hall over four days. The program deliberately appeals to the whole family — from the classic Stadtfest Schlager evening to the rock cover night on Saturday. Thursday and Friday are adult evenings, Saturday is the highlight with the main band, and Sunday is family-oriented.
The club mile is the heart of the Stadtfest from a civil society perspective. The Heiligenhaus clubs — TSV Heiligenhaus, KG Heiligenhauser Eulen, DRK, Feuerwehr, Schützen, Pfadfinder, music clubs, church communities — present themselves at stalls, offer culinary specialties, organize hands-on activities, and recruit new members. For newcomers, the Stadtfest is often the quickest way to get involved in the Heiligenhaus club scene.
On Saturday, the traditional Heiligenhauser Stadtfest flea market opens — a classic private flea market along the main street and in the side streets. Thousands of stalls, from family clear-outs to semi-professional junk dealers. For bargain hunters, it's one of the most important dates in the Niederbergisches flea market calendar.
A special feature is the beach volleyball tournament: Stadtmarketing lays down a sand court in the city center, where amateur teams compete in various classes. This is both a sporting highlight and a visual spectacle — and a perfect staging for the summer atmosphere.
On Sunday, Heiligenhaus retailers open their stores (usually 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.). Fashion, books, furniture, opticians — the Stadtfest and the Sunday shopping are a long-proven double concept that supports the retail trade in Heiligenhaus city center.
The town of Heiligenhaus, with its approximately 26,000 inhabitants, is located in the Mettmann district on the northern edge of the Bergisches Land, between Velbert, Ratingen, and Essen. Known for the Schloss Hugenpoet complex, the Hotel-Restaurant Schloss Hugenpoet as a historic moated castle from the 17th century, the Tunnelpark facility with the historical section of the Berlin Wall, and the Düsseltal hiking areas. Heiligenhaus cultivates a strong sense of self-awareness as a town of castles and natural landscapes and positions itself culturally and touristically as a quieter counterpoint to the industrial city of Velbert.
In addition to the Stadtfest, other major Heiligenhaus events include the Heiligenhauser Oldtimer Meeting, the Christmas market around the town hall, the carnival events of the KG Heiligenhauser Eulen, and the Schloss Hugenpoet concerts. However, the Stadtfest is undoubtedly the largest and most attended event of the year.
The 2026 Stadtfest spans four days and combines all the classic Heiligenhaus Stadtfest elements: live music on the main stage, presence of the Heiligenhaus clubs on the club mile, flea market on Saturday, beach volleyball court in the middle of the city center, and Sunday with open shops. Family-friendly, intergenerational, a classic format for a Rhine medium-sized town Stadtfest.
Free admission. Food €4-12, beach volleyball registration with team price.
By train: via Velbert or Ratingen-Ost, then bus 749/771 to Heiligenhaus-Mitte. By car: A44 exit Heiligenhaus or A52 exit Ratingen-Schwarzbach, follow signs for Heiligenhaus city center. Partial closures on festival weekends — parking in surrounding residential streets and at the swimming pool parking lot.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and beach volleyball participation at daily rates.
Those looking for bargains should come early to the flea market on Saturday. Families feel particularly comfortable on Sunday. Those who want to attend the main concert evening should plan for Saturday evening. Local tip: Parking at the swimming pool is usually possible even when the city center is crowded.
