Open-Air Musical Gala for Families on Brandenburg's Beetzsee
When the sun sets over the Beetzsee Regatta Course on August 20, 2026, and the first notes ring out from the speakers, a magical evening begins for many families from Brandenburg, Berlin, and Saxony-Anhalt. The children's musical gala "Hakuna Matata" takes the audience on a journey through the musical worlds of Disney and the most popular children's films and series. The title says it all — when "Hakuna Matata" from The Lion King is played, the whole hill sings along.
The Beetzsee Regatta Course is one of Germany's few natural regatta courses. Originally designed for rowing competitions, the shore with its wide water panorama and grandstand has become a unique open-air concert venue. The acoustics of the Beetzsee, the setting sun over the water, and the family atmosphere make the evening a special experience — quite different from a classic theater hall.
The Hakuna Matata Gala is part of the Brandenburgische Wassermusiken festival (August 20–23, 2026), which comprises four concert days at the regatta course:
The entire event series brings four very different concert experiences to one of Brandenburg's most unusual venues.
The independent city of Brandenburg an der Havel gives its name to the federal state and is located about 60 km west of Berlin. The Beetzsee Regatta Course is in the Görden district, in the middle of the water landscape that gives the city its special character. Those planning a weekend can combine their family concert with a day at the Beetzsee, a city tour in the old town, or a visit to the nearby Domstift Brandenburg.
The "Hakuna Matata" concert on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 6:00 PM, is the family kickoff for the Brandenburgische Wassermusiken 2026. The venue is the Beetzsee Regatta Course, a natural stage by the water that becomes an open-air concert backdrop in August.
The focus is on the most famous songs from Disney films as well as other popular children's films and series. Performed by musical singers and dancers with a grand stage show, the concert is designed for children between 4 and 12 years old — but parents and grandparents will also sing along when "Hakuna Matata" from The Lion King or "Let It Go" from Frozen are performed.
By car via the A2 (Berlin–Hanover) exit Brandenburg an der Havel, then L88 towards Beetzsee. Parking available at the regatta course. By train RE1 to Brandenburg Hbf, then bus line P/533 to "Brandenburg, Regattastrecke" (200 m walk).
Hakuna Matata: from €28.50. Advance sales via official ticket channels (eventim, ADTicket) and on the day of the event on-site. Family packages often cheaper.
Bring blankets and cushions — open-air seating. Evenings in August can be cool; a jacket is advisable. Food and drink stands available on-site.
