Considered Munich's most beautiful Christmas market – at Weißenburger Platz in the Haidhausen district
For over 40 years, the Haidhauser Weihnachtsmarkt has been a firm institution in the Bavarian state capital. On the tree-lined Weißenburger Platz in the trendy Haidhausen district, over 60 festively decorated and illuminated stalls offer gifts, Christmas decorations, and culinary delights. The market is considered an insider tip and one of the most atmospheric in the city.
A centerpiece is the beautiful nativity scene in a rustic, original Tyrolean wooden hut. The beer 'Christmator' is brewed especially for the market. On the second Sunday of Advent, a traditional ecumenical service takes place at the nativity scene in the morning – an example of the market's close connection to the neighborhood.
Every Friday, the 'Haidhauser Lichternacht' takes place – a luminous lantern procession for children, which begins around 5:00 PM. On weekends, there is a music program, and at least twice a week, the Kasperltheater (puppet show) performs for the youngest visitors. Live music daily creates a contemplative atmosphere.
Weißenburger Platz is located in the Haidhausen district, one of Munich's most charming neighborhoods, in the Free State of Bavaria. The 'French Quarter' with its Wilhelminian-era facades provides the ideal backdrop for the traditional market, which has preserved its family-friendly, neighborly character over the decades.
In 2026, Weißenburger Platz will once again be transformed from November 24 to December 24 into one of Munich's most beautiful Christmas markets. Over 60 stalls will offer gifts, Christmas decorations, and culinary delights. Highlights include the original Tyrolean wooden hut with a nativity scene, the specially brewed 'Christmator' beer, and the 'Haidhauser Lichternacht' – a lantern procession for children every Friday around 5:00 PM. On weekends, there will be a music program, and the Kasperltheater will perform at least twice a week. On the second Sunday of Advent, an ecumenical service will be held at the nativity scene in the morning.
By U-Bahn (U4/U5 Max-Weber-Platz) or S-Bahn (Rosenheimer Platz), then a short walk to Weißenburger Platz. Travel by public transport is recommended, as parking in Haidhausen is scarce.
Admission to the Christmas market is free.
The market runs during the Advent season. Haidhauser Lichternacht every Friday around 5:00 PM, Kasperltheater at least twice a week, ecumenical service on the second Sunday of Advent.
