About Haidbergkärwa

The Haidbergkärwa (locally "Haaberch-Kärwa") organized by the Großlosnitz Rural Youth is one of the biggest Pentecost events in Upper Franconia. Throughout the entire Pentecost weekend, the Haidberg, a hill above the Großlosnitz district of the municipality of Zell im Fichtelgebirge (Hof district), transforms into a festival ground full of brass band music, marquee atmosphere, and Franconian zest for life. In 2026, the Großlosnitz Rural Youth will celebrate its 55th club anniversary — from May 21st to 24th, 2026 (Pentecost), there will be a grand celebration.

A Kerwa Institution in the Fichtelgebirge

Anyone who has experienced the Pentecost Kerwa of the Großlosnitz Rural Youth in the Fichtelgebirge once will return. Since the club was founded in 1971, the young people from Großlosnitz, a district of the municipality of Zell im Fichtelgebirge in the Hof district (Upper Franconia), have organized their festival, called "Haaberch-Kärwa", at Pentecost. In 2026, it will be entirely dedicated to the 55th club anniversary — a perfect occasion to celebrate club life and Upper Franconian traditions.

Großlosnitz and the Haidberg

Großlosnitz, as a district of Zell im Fichtelgebirge, is located in a hilly landscape between the Fichtelgebirge and Bayreuth regions. The Haidberg is the prominent hill above the village, with views over the Fichtelgebirge to the Schneeberg. Every year, the large festival tent is set up here, a festival site with a bar, stage, and campfire is created — and the Rural Youth takes charge from Thursday to Whit Monday.

Tradition Meets Young Generation

The Haidbergkärwa is a special form of the Franconian Kerwa: supported not by the parish or the fire department, but by the Rural Youth. Young men and women from Großlosnitz and the surrounding area organize the festival independently — from setup, catering, program design, to booking bands. With the motto "Auf'm Haaberch steppt der Bär!" (The Bear Dances on Haaberch!), the club encapsulates its cheerful, somewhat unique atmosphere. The Bavarian Rural Youth (Bayerische Landjugend) counts the festival among its regionally renowned club highlights.

Parade, Highline, Kärwa Opening

For years, the standard repertoire has included: a grand parade with friendly Rural Youth groups from Upper Franconia, the traditional Kärwa-Aufspilln (musical opening of the Kerwa), and concerts by well-known regional bands (in recent years, "Highline" and other cover bands have performed). The festival typically spans four days around Pentecost Sunday.

What to Expect

  • 55th Anniversary in 2026 — a particularly festive edition
  • Parade on Whit Monday (May 24, 2026)
  • Festival tent catering with beer, Franconian delicacies, and live music
  • Concerts by regional cover and dance bands
  • Campfire and summery mountain atmosphere
  • Authentic Rural Youth atmosphere in Upper Franconia

Haidbergkärwa — edition 2026

For Pentecost weekend 2026, the Großlosnitz Rural Youth will celebrate its 55th club anniversary with the Haidbergkärwa on the Haidberg in Zell im Fichtelgebirge. From May 21st to 24th, 2026 (Thursday to Whit Monday), there will be a festival tent atmosphere, live concerts, traditional Kärwa-Aufspilln, and on Whit Monday, the grand parade — a special edition of the well-known Pentecost Kerwa.

2026 is a special year for the Großlosnitz Rural Youth: the club turns 55 and will celebrate its anniversary right on the Pentecost weekend on the Haidberg. Four days of festivities, live music, a parade, catering, and atmosphere — the Haidbergkärwa is more than just a Kerwa in the Fichtelgebirge; it's a source of identity for an entire generation in Großlosnitz, Zell, and the surrounding districts.

The official festival program will be published in the weeks leading up to the Kerwa via the municipality of Zell and the club channels of the Großlosnitz Rural Youth. Expect friendly Rural Youth groups from all over Upper Franconia, patron clubs, and several live bands throughout the weekend.
