Festival by the Water in Berlin's South

The Hafenfest im Tempelhofer Hafen uses one of Berlin's most charming waterscapes: the Tempelhofer Hafen on the Teltowkanal in the Tempelhof district (Tempelhof-Schöneberg borough). The historic industrial harbour, now used as a shopping centre with a waterfront location, forms the natural stage for a three-day family city festival – the promenade, the canal, and the centre itself become the festival grounds.

Programme Strands

Over three days, several strands are spread out:

• Main Stage with live music and cover bands
• Radio Teddy Stage for families with dance workshops and children's programme
• DJ Sets throughout the day
• Street Food Mile along the promenade
• Carousels and Game Stations for children
• Fireworks Display over the water on Saturday evening (11 p.m.)
• Creative stations, face painting
• Sports activities for families

The Highlight on Saturday

The highlight is the fireworks display over the Teltowkanal on Saturday evening around 11 p.m. The reflection on the water and the immediate proximity to the festival audience make the fireworks one of the most beautiful moments of Berlin's district festival scene.

Open Shopping Sunday

The Sunday of the Hafenfest is also an open shopping day at the Tempelhofer Hafen Center (usually 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.). The festival thus combines a Volksfest (public festival) atmosphere with shopping – a format that is rather rare in Berlin, fitting well with Tempelhof's hybrid identity between residential, industrial, and commercial.

Tempelhof and the Harbour

Tempelhof, with the Tempelhofer Feld, the former airport, and the industrial harbour district, is one of Berlin's most multifaceted districts. The Tempelhofer Hafen was built at the end of the 19th century as a transhipment point on the Teltowkanal and was reopened in 2009 as a shopping centre with listed industrial architecture. The Hafenfest is one of the district's most important local events.
