Four-day marksmen's and folk festival with fireworks on the second August weekend
The Sprötze-Kakenstorf e.V. marksmen's club unites the two neighboring villages of Sprötze and Kakenstorf in a shared club tradition. Sprötze is a district of the town of Buchholz in der Nordheide, while Kakenstorf is an independent village within the Tostedt collective municipality. The joint Schützenfest fosters the connection between the two districts.
The festival traditionally takes place every year on the second August weekend, starting from Sunday. In 2026, this means from Thursday, August 6th to Sunday, August 9th. Four days of festivities provide the framework for a varied program.
The King's Shoot on Thursday opens the festival and determines the new monarchs. On Friday or Saturday, the Grand Tattoo (Großer Zapfenstreich) follows with a torchlight procession, bugle corps, and traditional music. This ceremonial moment at dusk gathers the club family and the village community.
The parade on Saturday or Sunday afternoon leads the marksmen, bugle corps, and invited neighboring clubs through Sprötze and Kakenstorf. Afterwards, the King's Ball takes place in the large marquee with a live band and dancing until late into the night.
Fairground stalls with carousels, dodgems, and rides give the festival the character of a classic folk festival. The dance evenings in the marquee with live music are among the major attractions. A spectacular fireworks display on one of the festival days provides the visual climax and is visible from afar.
The 2026 edition continues the annual tradition of celebrating the marksmen's and folk festival on the second August weekend. The combination of a marksmen's festival, folk festival, dance music, and fireworks makes this event one of the most attractive summer events in Sprötze and Kakenstorf.
The fireworks display is one of the most anticipated visual highlights and attracts additional visitors from surrounding areas.
