Flea market with a view of the Sund

The Altefähr Harbour Flea Market takes place annually in early summer at the harbour and along the beach promenade of the municipality of Altefähr on the island of Rügen. The location is exceptional: situated directly on the Strelasund, with a view of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund on the opposite mainland shore, it combines bargain hunting, strolling, and harbour atmosphere.

Private individuals only

Unlike many commercial flea markets, the Altefähr Harbour Flea Market is strictly limited to private individuals. Only used and homemade goods may be sold – no new goods, no professional market vendors. This preserves the character of an honest village flea market.

Stand fee and setup

The stand fee is €10 per 3 running metres; children up to 12 years sell for free. Setup is from 8 to 10 am, sales from 11 am to 5 pm. Dismantling begins at 5 pm. Stands are allocated on-site, starting on the promenade and extending to the ferry bridge if necessary. Alcohol sales by stands are prohibited.

Regional context

Altefähr is located in the Vorpommern-Rügen district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) at the western end of the island of Rügen, directly opposite the UNESCO World Heritage city of Stralsund. The old ferry village offers a wide view of the Sund and is quickly accessible from the mainland via the Rügen Bridge. Cocktail bars and food trucks provide catering on market day.
