Third edition of the medieval market with knights, Vikings, crafts, fire show, and camp life in Strecktalpark
The organizer of the Medieval Market is Lorraine Médiévale, an organization based in the Franco-German border region. For years, Lorraine Médiévale has been bringing historically accurate medieval life to markets and festivals on both sides of the border and has established a firm venue in Pirmasens with the Strecktalpark. The connection between the French and German medieval scenes gives the event its special character.
The concept follows the classic medieval market: a camp with historically equipped tents, where performers in costume and character depict daily life from the 13th to 15th centuries, complemented by a market street with craftsmen and traders. In Pirmasens, the craftsmen come from Germany, France, and the Czech Republic – leatherworkers, stonemasons, blacksmiths, bow makers, potters, textile artisans, gemstone dealers, and goldsmiths. The quality of the stalls is significantly above that of an average medieval market.
The highlight of the weekend is the grand fire show on Saturday evening. Musical performances also accompany the market activities: bagpipe ensembles, harps, medieval minstrels, comedy, and smaller stage formats. The program runs throughout the day and into the evening hours.
The market offers a dedicated program for children: carousels, archery, dragon hunting, basket weaving, blacksmithing for children, and henna painting. The park-like atmosphere of Strecktalpark makes the stay particularly pleasant for families – plenty of space, shady trees, no dense city crowds like in narrow market squares.
Pirmasens, a traditional shoe city with around 40,000 inhabitants, has gained a new cultural pillar in recent years with the Medieval Market. The third edition in 2026 is larger and more diverse than the second: more exhibitors, more programming, more craftsmen. The market is on its way to becoming a fixed date in the event calendar of the West Palatinate.
The market is organized by Lorraine Médiévale. The third edition is larger and more diverse than the second, with more exhibitors and an expanded program. Detailed program on mittelaltermarkt.online.
