Ten days of an Upper Bavarian Volksfest in Haag in Oberbayern
The Haager Herbstfest is the Volksfest of the market town of Haag in Upper Bavaria and one of the highlights in the autumn calendar of the Mühldorf am Inn district. On the festival grounds on Schäfflerstraße, several festival tents and a showman's street are available for ten days. In 2026, the festival will run under the name 15th Haager Herbstfest – the self-image 'Bavarian, lively, family-friendly' stands prominently above the entrance.
The Herbstfest doesn't have a single mega-hall but is spread across several atmospheric festival tents and pavilions:
Compared to Munich's large folk festivals, the Haager Herbstfest has a much more local atmosphere. Many of the hosts and showmen come from the region, the breweries are Upper Bavarian, and the traditional parade on the opening Saturday with traditional costume groups, music bands, and horse-drawn carriages is a real spectacle, not a tourist program. The Inn-Salzach tourism region also counts the Herbstfest among its firm recommendations in September/October.
The market town of Haag is located in the Mühldorf am Inn district, south of the A94 between Munich and Mühldorf. Its market rights date back to the Middle Ages. The town is known beyond the region for Haag in Bayern Open Air and Haag Castle – but the Herbstfest is the Volksfest that brings the whole region together every year.
Spread across the ten festival days are classic Volksfest elements: Family Day with reduced prices, Senior Citizens' Afternoon, traditional costume evening, dance floor for revelers, hearty snacks, and the obligatory roast chicken in the beer tent. On the showman's street, the chain carousel, Ferris wheel, dodgems, and children's rides are firmly established.
The organizers of the Haager Herbstfest confirm the dates September 25 to October 4, 2026 via the official website haager-herbstfest.de and the tourism portal Inn-Salzach. This means the festival in 2026 spans two full weekends and fills the classic Upper Bavarian Volksfest space between the Munich Oktoberfest and the Mühldorf Volksfest.
On the grounds, as in previous years, Zeillinger's Festzelt, Bauer's Cafe & Weinstadl, the Bräustüberl, and the showman's street will be set up. Live music is part of the program in every festival tent: local and regional bands, as well as Schlager stars, cover bands, and traditional folk music groups. A detailed daily program will be published on the program page haager-herbstfest.de/programm and promoted via social media channels (Facebook/Instagram) and regional reporting by Mühldorf TV.
Bands and hourly programs per festival tent will be published on haager-herbstfest.de/programm.
