Newly conceptualized Gütersloh Christmas Market 2026 with expansion to Kolbeplatz and Wasserband — Premiere from December 5th
The Gütersloh Christmas Market 2026 marks a decisive new beginning. Following significant criticism of the 2025 edition — lack of atmosphere, overly concentrated area, missing family attractions — Gütersloh Marketing GmbH and the Werbering Gütersloh have presented a fundamentally revised concept. Opening day is Saturday, December 5th, 2026. The central innovation: spatial expansion of the market from the traditional Berliner Platz to additional areas in the city center.
For the first time in 2026, the market will be spread across three interconnected areas:
This expansion creates more space for stalls, programming, and relaxed strolling — and gives the market a completely different scale than in 2025.
In addition to the spatial expansion, the city announces several concrete innovations:
A consequence of the quality upgrade: higher investment. The city relies on sponsorship models and financial support from Gütersloh Marketing GmbH instead of solely on stall fees from exhibitors. This shift is intended to keep stall prices stable while enabling quality investments.
An accompanying measure: during the Christmas market period, the regular Gütersloh Weekly Market will be relocated to Berliner Straße and Martin-Luther-Platz — a decision already made by the Gütersloh City Council. This is intended to ensure the weekly market maintains its own strong presence alongside the Christmas market.
Gütersloh is an independent city with around 100,000 inhabitants (also the district capital of the Gütersloh district) in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, in the transitional area between Ostwestfalen and Münsterland. Characterized by industry (Bertelsmann headquarters), a vibrant city center, and cultural engagement, Gütersloh is one of the most dynamic medium-sized cities in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Christmas market is an important element of city life, and its new concept in 2026 will shape the entire city center's Advent season profile.
The Gütersloh Christmas Market 2026 marks the restart after a criticized 2025 edition. Opening day is Saturday, December 5th, 2026; closing is traditionally shortly before Christmas.
The weekly market will be relocated to Berliner Straße and Martin-Luther-Platz during the Christmas market period.

Admission to the Christmas market is free. Food, drinks, and handicrafts at the stalls at market prices. Curling rink likely for a small fee per session/time slot.
Berliner Platz, Kolbeplatz, Wasserband — all within walking distance in Gütersloh city center. Gütersloh train station is a 10-minute walk away. By car via the A2 (Gütersloh exit) and B61. Parking available in the city center parking garages.
Opening Saturday, December 5th, 2026. Detailed opening hours and market duration (until Christmas / Christmas Eve) will be published by Gütersloh Marketing in autumn 2026. Free admission.
The curling rink is the most spectacular innovation for 2026 — those looking for family activities should check the exact locations and opening hours. The expanded Christmas market area requires a bit more time for strolling — 1.5–2 hours instead of the previous 30–45 minutes.
