Three Days of City Festival in the Röderstadt

Großenhain — the Röderstadt in the Meißen district, about 30 kilometers northwest of Dresden — celebrates its big city festival from Friday, June 19th, to Sunday, June 21st, 2026. The entire city center between Hauptmarkt, Frauenmarkt, and Kulturschloss will become a festival mile for three days. The event is organized by the Großenhain city administration in cooperation with numerous local clubs, the Schützenhaus-Eventgroup, the cultural center, and Großenhain aktiv e. V.

Music for All Generations

The Großenhain City Festival traditionally focuses on a broad musical spectrum: on the various stages, Schlager and German-language pop hits alternate with Rock, House DJ sets, and R&B acts. Local choirs and music clubs from Großenhain and the surrounding area perform, as do cover bands from the entire region. For those who prefer a quieter atmosphere, the wine tent offers a relaxed setting with Saxon and international wines.

Families, Clubs, Funfair

There are special programs for children and families: skill competitions organized by the Mobile Youth Work, craft activities, and a carousel funfair with rides from Saxon showmen. The club mile is one of the permanent features — over fifty clubs from the city present themselves, from the shooting club to the fire department, from sports clubs to heritage associations. Beer tables and snack stands from local restaurateurs complete the culinary offerings.

Double Festival Summer 2026 — Hiking Day and City Festival

2026 is a special festival summer for Großenhain: At the end of May (May 29th–31st, 2026), the Große Kreisstadt will host the 15th Saxon Hiking Day — over 30 guided and thematic hiking tours, a festive event with the Zabeltitz marching band and the Geißlitztaler Musikanten, and an open-air dance night with the band Retroskop and video disco on the festival grounds. Just three weeks later, the city festival follows — combining both dates offers an experience of Großenhain as a Saxon festival stronghold.

Getting There and Accommodation

Großenhain is conveniently located between Dresden, Meißen, and Riesa. The city can be reached from Dresden Hbf in about 30 minutes by regional train (Großenhain Cottbuser Bahnhof station, short walk to the city center). By car, take the A 13 (Großenhain exit) or the B 98. Parking in the city center is limited during the festival — Park-and-Ride is signposted.
