Schützenfest with Kirmes of BSV 1849 Grevenbroich e.V. in the city center
From September 4 to 8, 2026, the Bürgerschützenverein 1849 Grevenbroich e.V. (BSV Stadtmitte) will celebrate its traditional Schützenfest with an attached Kirmes. Venue: the Kirmesplatz and Graf-Kessel-Straße in the Grevenbroich city center. Five days of festivities, a multifaceted program of shooting tradition and showman operations — and a club whose founding year, 1849, makes it one of the oldest on the Lower Rhine.
The Grevenbroich Schützenfest is more than a classic shooting festival: it includes a Kirmes character. Amusement rides, carousels, and food stalls on the Kirmesplatz complement the shooting tradition — a Lower Rhine mix that appeals equally to families, young people, and marksmen.
Parking is available at the old castle, about 500 m from the festival grounds. By train: Grevenbroich station (RE8, RB38 from Cologne and Mönchengladbach), then approx. 10 min. walk to the Kirmesplatz.
The Stadtmitte Schützenfest is not the only one in Grevenbroich: 21 Schützenfeste are spread throughout the year across the individual districts (Wevelinghoven, Kapellen, Allrath, Hülchrath, Hemmerden, Frimmersdorf etc.). However, the BSV Schützenfest in the city center is the largest and most attended — the undisputed highlight of the Grevenbroich shooting season.
The city of Grevenbroich (around 64,000 inhabitants) is located in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district on the left bank of the Lower Rhine (North Rhine-Westphalia). It is an important industrial city — known for its aluminum industry (Hydro Aluminium), lignite mining (RWE), and energy sector. Despite its industrial character, Grevenbroich cultivates its Lower Rhine traditional customs with particular intensity — the 21 Schützenfeste are proof of this.
